Can you fit a gas cooker yourself

So if i buy a brand new hob, i cant just plug it into the bayonet fitting and cook some dinner? i need to get someone in to plug it in for me?

As has been said, a blind one-armed monkey could push a hose in to a bayonet fitting. The issues arise with the correct hose length, type, angle it sits at, distance from floor, the way the bayonet is facing, how the appliance is secured etc that cause the problems.

Its all a swizz until your unsecured cooker catches fire, burns your house down and your insurance wont pay out because it wasn't installed by a competent person.

Gas is best for hob and electric fan assisted is best for oven.

I only ever see these all-in-one cookers in rental properties, or rather the space in the kitichen to put one. Probably becasue dodgy landlords don't want to folk out for oven and hob along with the B&Q kitchen special.

Sticking a manometer on to check for leaks isn't rocket sience either, it's all smoke and mirrors!

You could say the same about any job, im sure your jobs a peace of ****, its just a shame not everyone feels as confident as you and people end up dying because people like you claim the jobs easy..
