Can you have your electricity supply temporarily disconnected?

On the road....
As the title.

My girlfirend is coming to Spain with me in a few weeks, but is worried that once she's gone, her 19 year old son will be round to use her house as his doss hole for the week(!) and use her electric (heating, cooker, washer / dryer etc) costing her money.

So, a simple solution would be to get it switched off (he'd find the switch if we simply turned off the power at the main fuse box)

Will they do this? - Her supplier is N-Power.

Blimey, some parents really have to resort to extreme measures. Can't she tell him a. no, or b. if he does he better pay for it?

An even simpler solution would be to pull out all the fuses and hide them or bring them with her.

I don't think an individual supply can be turned off without sending an engineer out.

She can tell him what she wants - he pays no attention to her.

Extreme measures indeed.

Edit.

Freezer - We'll clear it out & throw everything in my freezer (he has no access to my place)

The take the fuse idea is a possibility, but, I would'nt put it past him sussing that one out & replacing the fuses from elsewhere...

Years back, she went away & took the phone (landline) with her to stop a large phone bill - he went & borrowed a spare phone!!!!

He is un-believable! - But she loves him (which is why I hav'nt knocked 12 bells out of him - yet. ;) )

erm why does he have a key if he cant be trusted?

Just change the lock and leave a key with a neighbour for emergencys. or as said just take all the fuses out that are not needed.. and leave the fuses in for the fridge or freezer.....

Just have the neighbours keep and eye out for him, and to call the police if they see him going in the house. Leave a contact number so that the police can contact her while you're both on holiday, to confirm the above.

Unless your neighbours are as useful as chocolate tea pots like mine.

Edit: Changing the locks before going on holiday sounds like a better plan though.

I've got his set of keys - he simply forces a rear window & climbs in - either that, or he'd force something else.

As I say, 12 bells if it were upto me. ;)

Remove the fuse wire from the fuses and put the fuses back. At least then it will look like a story about the electric company knocking the supply off is the truth.

Can't the wires from the meter to the fusebox be disconnected? A qualified electricain would know and be able to do it.

Removing all the fuses and taking/hiding sounds like the best bet. It wouldn't be worth the aggro of buying new fuses. Otherwise when he breaks in get the police to nick him. Then he'd soon stop.

Yes, he's had a brush with our "Justice system" so is not daunted by that one, one bit!

She won't get the Police on his case as he's "supposedly" being a good boy these days........
I honestly don't mean to sound like a *****, but I probably will...

Sounds to me like your girlfriend is too much of a push-over with him, and he needs a clout.
