Can you learn to Drive with a Racing Wheel (in a video game)?

So that's an emphatic 'no'. Ah that's a shame, I don't really need a car, I just thought it might be time to learn, I can always put it off. I just though the wheel might have a bit of realism, thanks anyway.

Sorry for being nosy but I just checked your profile, 33 is quite old not to have a driving licence, no offence :p

Using a simulator, it will help you learn the basics. Something like LFS with a G25, full clutch control, gear changes etc, I definitely think it helped me be able to jump into a car and drive straight away, having played the simulator for years before hand.

using the instruments of the car is a small aspect of driving, the very least important aspect.

navigating traffic and anticipation is the most important aspect, and you won't learn it in any game.

best to insure a family member's car, and get them to teach you. otherwise you will end up with bad habbits.

Fixed. Best to get professional lessons rather than learning off friends or family where you are more likely to adopt their bad habits. Especially if they haven't taken the test recently. I took the test in 1990, it has changed a lot since then so I wouldn't be a good candidate to teach someone how to pass the modern test, for example.

I agree with dirtydog here, learn from an instructor, then if you need it get some hours in with a family member just sitting there while you go through the motions you've been taught. After a certain amount of lessons you know yourself what you're doing wrong.
