Can you rent an office and just live in it?

I'm not saying it would be legal, just doable :D Had another mad idea of selling the car and buying an old camper van with my student loan, I wouldn't have a lot of space with one of those though and powering the computer would be tricky :p

as a student you'd probably have to pay more every month for insurance with the camper than you would every year for rent :p

I would say Ignore all these boring farts and go ahead and do it!

As long as no one knows or finds out you are there its perfect. You only pay 2000 a year, you can shower/get ready at the gym which isn't a problem at all. You wont be able to cook but there are ways around that which is not expensive. I know the insurance wont cover you but whats the odds in anything happening to you anyway?

Just do it, there's way more advantages than disadvantages.

Living in your van is not a ridiculous idea, definitely doable.

When you look at the price of a ratty old converted van and insurance, it's the same as a flat though. Over 2 years it would be cheaper but there is the risk of the van having something go terribly wrong. Also, where do you get leccy from? I'd have to be on a campsite that would add to the cost.. If a van was as big as a flat I might consider it but you can't stretch your arms in most of them :D

If you set it up as a charity shop I dont think you have to pay business rates. Just an idea :)

Ive thought about this before.

Why not set up a really cheap charity shop with clothes or something, then just live upstairs. Problem solved

Also, there are so many buildings that are empty and going to waste (in Leeds anyway) Why cant someone move in and pay reduced rent to whoever owns them?

At least someone would be making good use of them and the owner would be getting a bit of rent - better than falling down as some seem to be

I have been wondering this myself. Basically I want somewhere to live, with an actually office/work area for me to work from home without the usual distractions. It would also be quite useful to have the space should I have the need to take anyone else on. In addition I would love a proper lock up for my cars and to have a proper workshop to use.

I was thinking of getting a property with the downstairs being a large garage/workshop and the upstairs half living space and the other half an office. Effectively a commercial property, but I haven't got a clue about the implications of living in that space.

Hi there. I'm a student and I want a place of my own this year...

When I'm looking on Rightmove you get these offices or shop units that have really low rent compared to houses, like £2000 for a year. I want to save some money and all I really need is somewhere to sleep for the year. Food and washing up would be fine for me with just a mini office kitchen. I can shower at the gym :)

Do you have any friends?
No?
Any idea why not?
