Canada - Lenses

I'll still stick with what I've said then, cos it'll give you a little extra reach over what you've got and I would almost guarantee that you'd probably not look at your other lenses once you've got that on your camera :)

I'll play devils advocate and suggest a completely different lens - Canon 17-55 IS :) This will give you a good range of flexibility with your 550D, and whilst it's not an L lens it performs like one :)

hey, i have been looking more closely at the lenses and someone said why not go with the:

CANON 24-105MM 4.0 L IS USM

as it is lighter and shorter than the 24-70 and has image stabaliser. Would this also be a good lense to take as a jack of all trades for my holiday?

thanks

i just realised lensesforhire are closed and i go on holiday on friday!! anyone know a good rental shop in london? i phoned calumet who wanted triple the price of lenses for hire :(

You could always try Fixation but be prepared to pay double the price of LFH.

If you're that desperate, you might as well buy a lens and sell it on after you come back. You'd lose less money that way.

Er, not sure. EF-S refers to the mount on your 550D and is specific to Canon own-brand lenses. AF usually means autofocus.

What's the lens you had in mind?

I thought there were only two, the 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di-II LD ASP IF @ £300-ish and the 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di II VC Lens @ £350-ish, neither of which seem to mention EF-S or AF.

Can you link to where you've seen these EF-S and AF versions?

Oh, Jessops. Your link doesn't work, but I've had a mooch through the site and I can see where the confusion lies. And in this case, you'd want to select the EF-S option as that refers to the mount on your 550D.

Given the rather measly price difference between the VC and non-VC versions of the lens, this is the one you want.

lol, thanks, but someone on here said not to get the VC one as it was not as sharp as the non-vc one...?
That may well be the case, but I certainly wouldn't pay £318 for one.

In terms of shops in T5, at last glance you were limited to Dixons as your sole choice and I'm pretty sure they don't stock the Tamron 17-50.
