Montréal
In the 1960s the rivalry between French and English speaking Canada meant that the country's Grand Prix had two homes: Mosport Park one year and Mont-Tremblant the next. By 1970, however, Mont-Tremblant was deemed too dangerous and the race moved full time to Mosport Park.

In 1977 the French Canadians, motivated by the incredible success of Gilles Villeneuve, decided it was about time they built a race track. Building a new circuit simply wasn't feasible, however, as time and money were against them.

Their solution was simple and effective. Taking the Ile Notre-Dame, they connected all the island's roads and made a circuit. The island had been the home of the 1967 World Fair (Expo'67) and was full of futuristic looking buildings. It was, everyone agreed, a perfect venue for a Grand Prix.

After $2m was spent on upgrading the circuit to Formula One standards, the first race was held there in October 1978. Gilles Villeneuve, in his first season with Ferrari, was yet to win a Formula One race, but at his home Grand Prix he took a memorable debut victory. Following his tragic death in 1982, the track was renamed in his honour.

His son, Jacques, never won at the track but some of the great drivers of the sport have taken the spoils here. Michael Schumacher holds the record of having won seven times in Canada. It is also the scene of Jean Alesi's single Grand Prix victory in 1995, driving the number 27 Ferrari, the same car number which carried Gilles Villeneuve into the hearts of the Canadian Formula One fans.

Aaw man, only highlights on Channel 4 :(

Hopefully Lewis will have a good race to catch up with Vettel a bit. Imagine this is another track we could see a new lap record at with this years cars. Lots of power and traction!

Yes! Love this circuit - definitely on the bucket list. Should hopefully be a stormer between the Mercs and Ferraris, frustrated only by having to lap the McLaren's a few times during the race *

Great timing for UK viewers too.

If this race is a borefest then it really doesn't bode well for the remainder of the season

I really hope this has some good action

Not really. He is poor, but I'd give him at least until the summer break to see if he can turn it around.

Only reason I ask, for those who may not have seen, is that yesterday Renault Sport made a Facebook post announcing Robert Kubica had completed a private test of 115 laps for them. The summer break could be the more likely time to change out drivers though, now you mention it.

Kubica isn't going to come back into F1 this season regardless of how well his test went. Palmer won't be around much longer though, some even thought Monaco would be his last race. He's simply not good enough for F1, Sirotkin will most likely replace him sooner rather than later.

Id say this track is going to be quite well suited to Ferrari. There are lots of tight low speed corners and then should still have the advantage with ultra-soft tyre.

Hamilton is a beast here but id still put my money on another Vettel win.

Robert won't pass the mandatory evacuation time limit with his arm in the weakened state it still is. He also doesn't currently have the needed Superlicence.

I can see them ditching Palmer if he doesn't sort his game out, but it wouldn't be Kubica who replaces him.

It's clear Palmer is just not F1 material when you see how well Hulk has been doing with the same car.

Such a waste really, was a really talented driver. It's the risk he took though and he's paying for it now.

So full Monaco race is on c4 but this isn't? Ugh. Only highlights it is. Although as it's probably on a good time could try skygo.

I wish they hadn't kept palmer this year. Get him out ASAP. He's so bad. Made the comment in the last thread.

But RK would not be his replacement

Got a feeling this is going to be Vettel's race if Hammy can't keep the ultras in the zone.
