So allegedly this is the new Canon 24-70 mk2:
Is anyone else a little disappointed with the design? I'm sure the optics are excellent but, design-wise, this doesn't appeal to me at all.
It's partly the new barrel design which Canon are using which just looks 'cheaper' to me than previous lenses. I'm sure it's very well constructed but it just doesn't look as nice.
Mainly though it's the zoom mechanism and hood. I really liked the reverse-zoom of the 24-70 and how it meant the hood could be fixed to the body, as it meant the hood provided the best possible performance at both ends of the range and it protected the extending barrel from knocks. Both of these features have been lost.
