Hi,

Decided to get a Canon 550d very soon. I know it's not as good as the 40d etc etc but would like the HD recording feature. Also I've held the 40d and seems a bit too bulky for my liking.

Anyway I already have the Tamron 17-50mm lens as everyone recommended, so question is do I buy the bundled kit with the 18-55mm lens for around £650 or just buy the body only for around £600 ?

Thanks,

since you already have a lens that is the same range, it'll be a waste of £50.

save the cash and get a 50mm prime instead

:)

Note taken...

Dear Blastman,

My wife has threatened to leave me because she found me 'snuggling up' with my lenses. Apparently I love them more than her.

What should I do?

Regards,
M. Confused of Bognor

p.s. I agree with your previous advice on not buying the kit lens

Yup, don't bother with the kitlens if you already have the tamron, also I don't think a 50 1.8 is that important if you have a tamron. I'd rather put the money towards a better flashgun or some filters.

Definitely do what has been advised. There is a reason that lens is £50 and you get what you pay for.

I agree with this. I bought the 50mm 1.8 before getting the Tamron. I actually found 50mm on a crop body too long, but i did like the sharpness of it.
When I bought the Tamron, I haven't used the 50mm since because the tamron is a sharp lens and is good for low light anyway, and with the 50mm, it's quite soft until 2.8 so I didn't find a use for it anymore.

Mine's currently up for sale on the MM.

Looking around online you can get the 550d with the kit lens for £615 with collect in store, so for the sake of £15 it might be worth doing to make it a "kit" if you do plan to upgrade in the near future.

I also got my 50 before getting the Tamron though I have found the 50 useful when shooting a couple of gigs in low light - I'm also quite keen to buy a reversing ring from e-bay and use it as a macro lens.
