Canon 600D body, worthy upgrade?

I currently own a 1000D but I'm growing tired of the 10.1MP and lack of HD video etc. The 600D is definitely one I'm looking for at the moment but I can't seem to find any good websites that sell cameras. Some I've found with reasonable price tags but the site itself looks naff.

Are there any other Canons some of you could suggest I consider upgrading to?

Thanks

Bit of a noob question here: with the names of the camera (i.e 600D or Kiss X5 Rebel T3i), is this only a regional name difference or are there differences with cables/plug types etc?

Certainly for the HD Video if that's that's what you are after then its a good upgrade

Extra megapixels always come in handy when you need to crop though better glass is often a more worthwhile option.

I don't know much about Video in cameras but how tied in are you to canon with the rest of your kit? There may be better options as I don't think Canon does full time focussing in video unlike the Nikon D5100?

I have 3 (basic) Canon lenses already so Canon is my only choice really. I was considering a new lens but the 18MP will allow me to get stuff printed onto canvases etc.

I've had canvases done with 4 megapixel images and they've turned out brilliant. My 5D is only 12 megapixels and it's done giant poster prints. Megapixels aren't your limiting factor here.

This changes things a little I guess, although the 600D features certainly show some good pros to upgrading. What are some good kit lens upgrades? I've seen a sigma 17-50mm I think but I'm not all-knowing when it comes to lenses.

if its being advertised for sale here in the UK they will provide a UK 3 pin adaptor.
more important is if its a grey import canon uk wont fix it under warranty

Want better resolution? Get a better lens. ;)

Unless you absolutely NEED 18Mp (which I doubt - not in a patronising way, but check out reviews of the Nikon D700 and you'll understand why), or HD video, then glass will serve you a lot better than a new body...

The HD video recording is quite appealing though, that and the tilty screen (would help a lot using tripods and astronomy stuff!) But, do you have any lens recommendations, perhaps to sway me? :D

I could, but if you were genuinely interested you'd already know what you were looking for. ;)

And what - other than landscapes and skies - do you shoot?

I shoot cars and other such objects, occasionally people (headshots etc.) But with lenses either a wide-angle or kit lens upgrade would suit me. There are various Sigma 17-55mm lenses for around £300ish but I'm not fully sure how much I'd have to pay to get visibly better images.
