Looking at going up in the Camera world... Canon 5D in fact - after getting the refund on my 20d fiasco

However - I can get the camera for ~£1800 *highstreet price - probably much less if I shop around*

But I can get it with the EF 24-105 L IS USM lens for ~£2150

It covers the range where most of my shots are taken, doesn't seem to huge, not too heavy, a good general lens....

But is it
a) in fact any good?
and
b) worth the £350 on top?

Ta... :D

Just to give you an idea, that lens is £656 to buy new.

Definitely worth £350. Even if you don't like it you could always sell it at a profit.

My 5D cost £1649 from a UK retailer.

Make sure you shop around, which i'm sure you will do.

Just spotted it for £1570 on a UK web site, but with the lens deal you quoted above the price rises to £2180.

Hmmm....
Looks barely worthwhile if the 5d is Sub £1600 on it's own. If I could get the camera plus lens for 2k - then I'd get it now...

Plus - is it me or is the 5d not really that much of a step up over the 20d/30d. In some area's it appears to be outclassed by the lower level cameras too.

I think Canon may need to re-think their model lineup anytime soon. I can certainly see why people were complaining about the 30D when they were looking at upgrading from a 20d - there's no point at all.

Time to go play I think...

if i were in the position to drop £2000 on a body i'd definately be waiting until february until canon announces it's new models.

The 5D is not meant to be an upgrade to the 20D/30D - it's just a full frame 20D/30D :)
It has excellent low noise, high ISO ability and your lenses do as advertised :)
