Hi there. My current kit is a Canon EOS 500D with the 18-55 kit lens and the EF-S 55-250 telephoto lens. I've had it a couple of years and am very happy with it and have got many great (by my humble standards) shots out of it.
I'm looking at upgrading the kit lens to a better general walk-around lens, and in particular would like a little more zoom range particularly at the wider end. I don't really want to have 3 lenses though, so am not really considering a dedicated wide fixed/zoom lens. From my shooting experience I don't often find myself needing wider aperture (though IS definitely helps with this). I was therefore looking at the Canon EF-S 15-85, which has a really useful looking zoom range (in particular starting at 15 rather than 18) and seems to generally get good reviews.
In terms of image quality, would this be a significant improvement on the kit lens, or would I effectively just be paying for the extra zoom range and USM? Any other lenses which you would recommend (for the same or cheaper)?
Thanks.
