On the hunt for a new point and shoot (well non-dSLR), anybody on these forums tried the new G9 yet? I have to say I'm quite tempted though there has been talk of some manufacturing issues.

As I understand that's still a bit of a problem with the G9 though that doesn't concern me too much. The issues I've been reading about regard the LCD.

I got one a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post some stuff from it here but haven't got round to it yet. Loving it all, no problems yet but I have nothing else to compare it to for first hand experience. Except a Fuji MX-2700 from 1999 :D

I'll post at some point and can answer questions, post pics on request...

Thanks for the reply, I suppose my question is are you happy with it and are you getting the pictures you expected? A couple of sample pics would be very helpful as I've only got till next week to decide on the G9 and a dSLR.

Yeah I suppose I'm getting the photos I want. Tend to compare G9s to dSLRs more than P&S cameras though so not as sharp or as good in low light as I wanted, but I wanted something that could fit in my pocket. Although I'm looking to get a wideangle lense for it at some point :)

There's also the Canon Powershot S5 IS, it's a bit cheaper than the G9 and has a longer zoom. Someone on here said something like the G series being a manual camera with point and shoot capabilities and the S IS being a point and shoot with manual capabilities, and having previously owned a G3 I think I'd agree with that. The flip-out LCD convinced me to go with the S5 instead of the G9.

Pics from various occasions. Most are from 4000*3000 RAW file and have a little processing done, accompanying 100% crops too.

Unfortunately I'm after something small that can shoot RAW, the G9 being the only one that can do that at the moment (I think).

Thanks for the pictures NutritioN, there are some good pictures there though there is some noise present on the 100% crops. Though I understand this still is a P&S (well sort of) and any moderately high ISO is going to produce some noise. Still it's helping me with my research, now I've just got to decide whether I get a 40D at the same time.
