I just went to take a few pics and somehow my SD card has been wiped :(

Luckily I didn't lose too many pictures.

My camera is set to continous for picture numbering but now when i put the card in it's back down to number 0007.

Why has it done this, can I recover my number, so that when I drag off the SD card I dont get numbering clashes?

I found this which might help:

A: Here's what to do if you still have a CF card with images that are exclusively from the initial file numbering sequence, ideally from the end of that sequence:

1. Find a spare CF card that you don't mind formatting. 2. Set the camera's file numbering setting to Auto Reset. 3. Format the spare CF card. This resets the file numbering sequence to 100-0001. 4. Set the camera's file numbering setting to Continuous. 5. Replace the spare CF card with the CF card that has the last image from the initial file numbering sequence. The camera will resume file numbering from that point.

I think this method may rely on the tag file to set the numbering but it might be worth trying just with a correctly numbered file in the right folder structure.

Thanks I will give that a try, does the camera not have it's own counter (1000D) The reason I ask Is what happens when I change SD cards say If one gets full? How does it apply this to the new card to keep the numbers running?
