Been looking at getting either a wired or wireless remote but I'm wondering exactly how it works......and yes I know that sounds daft :p

All the spec I've seen for the RC-5 is this

* Allows for shutter release up to 16 feet
* Wireless camera operation
* 2-second shutter release delay
* Works with some Canon APS models
* Makes group photos easy

But i cant find anything about how it focuses on the subject, or do you have to do it all beforehand....sort of defeating the purpose if it does for self portraits etc.

Can anyone shed some light on this please :)

These things are just a wireless extension of the shutter release button - first pressure sets exposure and focus, second pressure takes the shot.

Personally, if it's for a DSLR, I'd buy a third-party RF remote from the bay as they give a much better range and are a lot less faffing about than an IR release. I use a Phottix Plato but the Cleon is a cheaper alternative.
