Hi all,

So im in the process of setting up my WHS and trying to install to an intel 330 60GB SSD. Problem is the issue that many people have with data size etc. WHS wants 160GB of space and i want to give it 60 max. I have tried using a cfg.ini file and it just seems to be completely ignored. I have tried using the disc, and creating a bootable usb. Tried putting the cfg.ini on the install usb and/or on a seperate clean usb. I have tried installing to a 1tb hdd and it works so i must be doing everything else right.

Intel G850
Asus P8H77-i
Intel 330 60GB
2x2gb Gskill

Much appreciate any help on this.
Thanks

Is your USB detected? If you try to manually load drivers from the Windows Setup is it shown as a drive?

It's possible it could not be seeing the USB drive and can't read the cfg.ini, any chance of that say in a USB3.0 port for example?

USB is definately detected as i have booted into installation from a usb and have had keyboard ans mouse working all the time. Have tried swapping and switching through all usb ports. inc front usb. inc usb 2 and 3.

Ok, worth a shot :)

I'd go with Bledd.'s suggestion then, install to hdd and then image it across to the SSD. I did it with WSE2012, using Macrium too, and it only took about 10mins - so it's just not worth the time finding the problem with cfg.ini.

Ok kl, already spent two evening trying to get this sorted so would be good do get a solution :) Are there any shortfalls to using an image? loss of features or future problems etc?

Not really.

Probably goes without saying that you should swap the drives out after you've imaged to the SSD and check the boot order is correct in the BIOS.

I'd be tempted to use the WHS dashboard to move all your default shares to the C:\ drive and then use Disk Management to delete the D:\ partition before the image.

The shares will be empty and then when you attach the imaged SSD you can move them on to a data drive. If you forget it's no biggie as the dashboard allows you to recreate them anyway.
