Can't get 3200mhz DDR4 to run more than 2933mhz

Hi all,

Just put together my first Ryzen build. 1700 CPU on a Crosshair Hero VI with G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GFX DDR4. Chose the DOCP standard setup in BIOS but cannot for the life of me get the RAM to run at anything above 2933mhz. If I choose 3200mhz it immediately returns to 2400mhz on reboot. I must have watched every youtube video out there and tweaked every value I can in the BIOS but nothing I do will get me to 3200mhz. It shouldn't be this hard should it? It boots up fine at 2933mhz, no crashes or lock-ups....but I want 3200mhz dammit!

I have read elsewhere that it could be the CPU, that some 1700s are not happy running RAM at 3200mhz. I've already returned the DDR4 and I'm on my 2nd set so I'm fairly happy that isn't the culprit.

I'm still within my 14 days from ordering the CPU/MB so I'm wondering if I should return the 1700 to OCUK and try another one? Would I be OK ordering the new one before returning the old one? Don't want to be without my working PC if at all possible but don't want to end up with (and pay for) 2 CPUs ;).

Am I right in thinking that if I request a return on the 1700 I have a full 14 days after this to actually return it? Or is it 14 days from the original order date?

Cheers.

Well this is getting interesting. Now on BIOS 9943 and I've been able to run 3060mhz on my memory. Still can't get to the magic 3200 but I'm happier. Every time I try to select 3200 it immediately defaults to 2400 on restart. Strangely I did manage to get it to 3333 just to see if it would work, it survived the first restart but next one it went back to 2400. Happily running at 3060 at the moment with my Ryzen 1700 overclocked to 3850Mhz.

Tried those settings, 3200 still wont stick but 3333 seems to be holding beyond several resets. Will see how she goes. Thanks for your help.

3333mhz stopped working after some more restarts so decided to try 9945. Now at last able to hit the magic 3200mhz and stay there. Thanks everyone for the help.

I found 9945 easier also. Though I still haven't come across what the actual difference is, only that 9945 was designed to make 2DPC easier than 9943.

I'll be interested to know what the next BIOS has for us.
