Hi.

There is a motherboard that has a built in agp 7200 (i think) and has a pci-e card, but still uses ddr 1 memory

does anybody knwo what it is, somebody mentioned it to me in conversation, and now I have forgotten what it is.

I did have look through some of the boards on the OC main site, but not knowing the manuafacturer etc, its a needle search.

SO if any body knows off hand :)

no, it had a built in (integrated) on board, nvidia 7200 (may have been a 7300)

and also a pci-express slot

the memmory was DDR not DDR 2

so sounds like it may have been the asrock

The reason for the question, is dependant on what the baord was,(if anybody knows) would be a good way into pci-express without going to the expense of replacing all the memmory.

I doubt my cpu woudl go on any modern mother baord now anyway it is a intel 2800, but not even hyper thread lol

So it doesent really matter what chipset etc.

I dont really mind if i stay intel or go back to amd.

I do like the idea of a mother baord yes that is baord :) that has both pci and agp slots (i coudl use my current card untill I have the spare cash to get a pci one)

I have had my gigabyte motherboard and the intel 2.8 for a couple of years and it currently has a leadtek 6800ls in it. with a gig of ddr 400 memmory.

the reason for this whole thread, I would like to upgrade, but I do not want to have to effectively start again with a new board, new cpu, new grachics card and new memmory.

A friend mentioned a board with integrated graphics, and a pci express slot
(meaning i could upgrade to that and not worry about a graphics card for a little while) which would take ddr memory (meaning that I wouldnt have to shell out for ddr2)

I apreciate my cpu is now too old, and wouldnt likely go in any new motherboards

On a side point, just because a computer doesent have the latest cpu, g.card and memmory does not mean that it will no longer play games,

my sons pc is a 2gig amd with a fx5200 and 512 memory, and that still plays new games (the latest one we have is Need for Speed : Carbon)

and if you mean that my current cpu would give a huge bottle neck, well I wouldn't know about that (although I am thinking of changing up because it is getting old) but I am yet to find any game that It is struggling with, includint NFS:carbon on the standard out of the box settings (not tried to turn it up or down to see any differnces)

the MB is a gigabyte

ok just ran cpuid

my cpu is:-

Intel Northwood
socket 478 mPGA

core speed: 2807.1 mhz
multiplyer x21.0
bus speed 133.7 mhz
rated fsb 534.7 mhz

Cache
L1 Data 8 kbytes
L1 trace kuops

L2 512 Kbytes

I think my cheapest, and probably best all round option would be to go for

ASRock 775Dual-VSTA

and a core 2 intel cpu.

that way I can use my memmory and graphics card for now

would you agrea?
