Last June the plates on my car got cloned. The few weeks after that i had an abundance of speeding tickets and parking fines. Got in touch with police, explained the situation and got told to ignore pretty much all of them and that they would deal with it.

A month later, i got rudely awoken at 3 in the morning. My car had been involved in a ram raid on a Co-op and wanted to know if it was me, when the police realised that it was physically im possible to travel 22 miles, through country lanes in 15 minutes while driving a 1.1 citroen C2, they said they would speak to me in the morning.

Next morning, police explained that i will have a tough few weeks, as more tickets came through and more fines (by this point i should technically have 21 points and around £500 in fines)

Couple days later got a letter from Birmingham City Council, I have a parking fine. Now as the police said i just ignored this and didnt hear anything....... Until Today.

15 months on i get a letter from an impound company in Birmingham. My car was impounded the day of the parking fine and thus there was a £120 impound fee, then £12 per day storage fee..... Thats a touch over £5000 so far. I cant believe that this thing has come back to haunt me! I sold the car 2 months ago! Looks like i have a nice discussion with the impound company first thing Monday morning. Any ideas what else i can do to stop things like this happening again?

Rant over :)

Its a shame you didnt still have the car, im sure a trip to Birmingham in said vehicle and showing them how un-impounded it was could clear that up. I dont think theres a lot you can do, surely the letter should have gone to the new address of the car? Unless they have sent it to the address they originally had.

That's some bad luck mate! Hope you get it sorted.

I've always been surprised that this doesn't happen a lot more!

On another note - do people ever steal parking tickets off cars so the owner doesn't know they received the fine?

Yes, but you'll then have one mangled C2, and some serious bodily injury. :p

InvG

yes, but when the police actually watched the shop cctv, they realised it was a Red Ford Focus, then using there skills of dumbfoundery (<New word) they check the speed camera pictures.......

ZOMG it was a red ford focus, so im betting the one in the impound is a red ford focus..... hopefully

surely if that is the case you simply turn up with the log book or a copy of the log book and say "look, its the wrong car, congratulations you just recovered a nicked focus now **** off and leave me alone"?
