distilled water is best,put in enough to cover the cells.You can just undo the caps but leave them in place as it stops things dropping into the battery.
Its is acid in the battery (sulphuric probs) when you get some on your hand you will know...lol
The water you add just tops the acid up and will not harm the concentration the amount you put in....
Yeah as you charge keep the caps loose over the holes cos the acid sokmetimes bubbles up a bit and if it goes on a carpet or such you gonna get holes...lol
it is normal for it to make a noise as the bubbles rise to the surface while it is charging.If you can get the caps off (some batteries are seales) then have a look to see if any one cell is bubbling more than the others as this is a sign that it is on it's way out.Check out for a rotten egg smell as this also is a sign that all is not right. A battery needs all cellls to be in good condition to make starting a car easy.
