Heyup,

The other half is after a newer car and after a few days driving around has narrowed her choice to the following:

Peugeot 206 1.6 Quicksilver - 05 plate, 26k miles - £6500
Ford Fiesta 1.4 Flame - 54 plate, 13k miles - £6800

Both similar in spec etc. She has test driven both and is now asking me to help choose. I want no part/blame in deciding so thought I'd pass the buck to the forum :D

Anything inherently wrong in the above 2? Any reasons to go for one over the other?

She currently has an accient VW Golf diesel and has been told to buy from a dealer by her Dad who's stumping up the cash.

Cheers

personally I wouldnt have either, however the fiesta in non ST spec looks horrible imo

Personally I stay away from anything Peugeot, from what I know, they have, and especially the 206, it has gearbox issues...

Fiesta's are nice looking, and drive well from what im told..

1 vote here for the Fiesta..

But if she is still shopping around, you can get a 51 to 52 Mini ONE for about 7.5 if your budget stretches to it... but only thing I can advise you is to double check that its had a gearbox change in its life if its Sub 50k in mileage...

And I didnt say it was.. I just offered another alternative, as well as putting my vote down for the fiesta ;)

Tricky one. Girlies love the 206 and the 1.6 16v is a decent engine with good power. I'd say the 206 is a touch larger than the Fiesta too having travelled in both.

Both suffer with rather plasticy interiors, but the Ford is more likely to remain held together than the Pug. Pug front suspension is also a bit of a weakness once they get a few miles on the clock, with top mounts, balljoints and ARB bushes being common issues, but not all that expensive to fix.

The Fiesta Flame has a decent spec for a small car, the 1.4 engine is keen to rev and the handling is very neat. Parts and service will be cheaper than the Pug, but £6800 seems a bit rich for a 54 plate which will be 2 and a half years old. I've not looked at any guides, but my thoughts would have been around the £5500-£6k mark tops. You might find a 53 or 04 plater considerably cheaper as its dropped out of warranty.

Thing is though, no matter what you try and tell her she'll buy the one she likes the look of and in my experience fighting the issue will get you nowhere :)

Hehe, indeed. But heaven forbid I influence her descision and it goes wrong.....

I've shown her your comments and she's off to the dealer tomorrow for a haggle.

Cheers
