ok, how about this for a moan coming from a little boy who is just started to learn how to drive.

ok, here is a quote for a Renault cleo fully comp. £2700!

right, and i just did the SAME search but ONLY changed to a female.

the quote i got back was £800, what i can i say.........oh for **** sake.

cleo is 7 years old, 1 owner, no damage, 1.2L petrol, 3 door.

what has the world come to, i wasn't that bothered when i was younger but now im at the age i can drive, its just crazy.

aparently the goverment is going to even it out a little, but all i can say to that Mr cameron, is.....pfff....you posh ********! and you girls are lucky sods.

Please fully star swearwords.

It's fair. 17 year old (or 1 day into 18 in my case :D) guys cost insurance companies so much money, they have to get it back. Why load the girls with it when it wasn't their fault? This is why the EU verdict is obscene.

lol at it being the tory's fault.

clio*... why are you surprised? lol

edit: pay now and you'll reap the benefit after a few years of driving.

at the moment insurance companies are in the process of changing their ways of rating upon drivers, by december 2011 all insurance companies wont use gender to rate a policy, some companies have changed already and some will stagger it

your point is what.

stastics show that young males are more likely to prang their car. doesnt matter if its only a 1.2 clio thats only worth maybe £2k what it you whack it into a £100k car.

ill admit that there are some careful young males as are some terrible females drivers but as above thats life.
does make a difference with some cars, both me and my now wife looked at insuring her bro in laws 2.5 ZT. me at 22 maybe 23 her a few years older and again few more years NCB but there was only about £50 difference - it was actually cheaper for me to insure a rover/mg v6 than it was for my 1.4 civic

as for the EU ruling you think its going to level it up, your right females will just pay more, i doubt very much that male premiums will drop

you could always take a sharp knife downstairs if it annoys you that much ;)

Women crash and it's just a small bump into a car/anything really.

Guys crash and we tend to take out a few different cars, end up with it in a field on it's roof after killing half the farmers cattle.

Therefore we cost more overall than women.

Buy a cheap car and insure it third party as you will get bored of it or crash it anyway.

i think they should change it, so they only make u pay more if u have a prang or make a claim, i dont see y ppl that dont have prangs should have to pay for the ppl that do :S

some are starting to find that 3rd party costs just about as much as fully comp, even had a few on a car forum that i mod coming back saying that its actually been dearer on 3rd party

add your mother as a named driver and watch the premuim come down a fair bit

they already do this anyway, have a look at a excess on an under 21s policy.
i remember having a £500 voluntarily excess then in the fine print a £750 compulsory excess.

i paid £1300 at 19 to insure a 1.4 if id pranged it i would have had to pay out a further £1250.

to the OP another hint have you done past plus ? if not do it

If you crash it will probably cost your insurers a LOT more than £1250. Start with £5k odd for each whiplash claim. If someone gets seriously injured the cost might run into millions in damages. That is why costs for young men are so high: not because they prang, but because they take others with them when they do.

Because then they are massively out of pocket when they assume people won't crash at all and then they do, spectacularly?

if you pay say £300 a year with a company for 4 years, one incident and going by an average, i would say would cost between 1500 and 2000, the insurance company will still be out of pocket, so the whole insurance game is based on the possibility of something happening, not whats definately going to happen. so they watch the claim details to see what trends are going on , drivers between 19 -24 making more claims, more clio 1.2 making claims than clio 1.4, then a price is based upon the trends that are seen in the UK, hence why you might not make a claim this year but at your renewals your price goes up because your details push you in to a group of people that are costing them a lot of money.

Mods could you be a little more lenient it's just a swear word like you don't ever say them. Maybe a warning instead of a suspension for the OP?

@Hxc, I completely disagree, it's quite fair to charge males and females exactly the same when their gender is considered, since you've not done anything wrong but charged more before you've even driven on your own. Hike the price once they have an accident. Just like some good males are put in the same group as morons just because of the same gender doesn't mean they have the same driving ability, but it's hardly fair to charge one more than the other until they've proven themselves.

OP: Try waiting a few years since it should bring the price down, add named drivers if possible if the price is too expensive you need to find alternative transport.

You do get quoted some ridiculous figures, im 19 just got my 1 years no claims and am renewing the end of this month with a figure of £1,100 3rd party fire and theft on a 1.2 Fiat Grande Punto. Ive been quoted £5,000 before though. Women drivers will have to pay an equal rate from next December but unfortunately due to the number of young lads who crash/drive around with no insurance/generally drive like idiots, insurance premiums are high.

Young males do get stung with insurance, I completely understand why, I hate paying 500 quid a year more than my other half but its a fact of life. Buy something you can stick on a classic policy, I save 900 quid a year going classic on the same car.
