Car park ding, owner hesitant to pursue

1) You were ripped off

2) For the cost of a tenner, is it worth the risk?

3) What if you have a second non fault within the next 5 years? One may not put it up but two almost certainly will.

By all means report it to the police as a hit&run but it's best to keep it off the insurance databases.
 
I would absolutely report this to the police. When we were about 18 a woman in a car park opened her door, hard, into my friends Mk 1 Golf. Her response to him demanding recompense was telling him to get a life. She was reported, Police pursued the matter and it was resolved via her insurance company.
 
You should report it as a failure to stop ASAP really...

Well I dunno about 3D, but I paid £8 for a plain yellow one with plain text with no border or other markings other than the legally required ones which were made as small as they could legally get away with.

to have the EU flag was an extra quid.
 
His dad got him to report it to the bill. I'll obviously take staff status and not mate status when/if called as a witness to anything :) I've got permission to use CCTV as evidence, it may not show the accident but the time stamp etc.. might be handy.
As for if i heard or saw the accident, i heard the initial bang and then saw the cars rubbing each other. I'll update with any progress.
 
I would report it as leaving the scene of a collision, even if he doesnt want to take it to insurance, it means the police will be onto her and give the arrogant bint a bit of a shock
 
Hope she gets whats due...had someone reverse into my car in a carpark and scrape it once while i was walking back to it, she exclaimed how the spaces were so small and just drove off...this is why i like driving a snotter, think i'd cry if i owned something worth more than the price of taxing it...
 
my insurance went up when some bint plowed into my car whilst parked, its not fair i wasnt driving and she admitted liability why should i suffer!

Had it happen too, a scuff along half my driver's door and the entire rear left door, no note or anything :mad:. Luckily most of it polished out and only some very slight scratches remain that can't be seen from further than about 20 inches...

I hope he reports it to the police, it's a shame stupid bints like that aren't punished harder for actions like that.

FYI, the driver who caused damage has the legal obligation to either give details to anyone who has reasonable grounds for requiring the details (I'm not sure if anyone not directly connected to the driver meets this criterion) or they must report it within 24 hours to the Police. So she may not have broken the law, as you don't know if she reported it. Either way, I'd report the incident myself.

Back in the day, in the old MK4 Escort, I had some old broke smack my bumper while I was sat in the car. He didn't even look at me, until I slammed my horn on, at which point he just shrugged with his hands out, smiled and drove off. I wasn't that fussed about the car, and couldn't be bothered with the hassle of involving the police just to get one up, though.

Another incident was in another banger - the old derv cavalier; A woman in an E36 'vert rear ended me. She hit my tow bar, so there was no real damage to my car. She was very apologetic, asking if I was ok etc. until I asked for her insurance details for reference, at which point she asked why I wanted them. When I explained that I was going to have the tow bar inspected to ensure it wasn't bent or damaged in any way, she turned round and said "You know what, I didn't even hit you" and drove off, but not before I got a picture of her car and reg number.

I subsequently reported it to the police, who sent me out a form to fill out and to draw a diagram, but unfortunately laziness won and I never got around to going back to the scene to draw it up.

Wish I had now, though.
 
This type of thing makes me angry too. My GF bought a second hand car @ £7000, she was very happy with it and within one week someone at ASDA had reversed into it putting a large dent in the boot. Its a ford puma and the boot line is very high so must have been a 4x4 with a spare on the rear hatch. She was really upset so i stormed into ASDA and asked for security who turned up and helped me id the parking location outside so the security cams could watch us, unfortunatly it was 10 meters out of sight! we ended up paying for the repairs with cash to save the hassle. grrrr

A few years ago i was sitting outside a local pub which was in the country so nice and old man type. i watched an old lady get in her car, attempt a 3 point turn (at this point i really watching as i have no idea why she didnt just reverse). she reversed into the side and lifted it off it wheels and attempted to drive off, i got up and waved her down and all she did was wave back thinking i was saying hello!! lol. Only when i stood in her way did she stop for me to tell her what she did. I went into the pub to report it to the owner who wasnt too happy as it was brand new. didnt get a free pint out of it tho

For the OP to have stopped the driver and for them to say 'its only a car' is way off in my book. Should have put a boot into the rear quarter and repeat the phrase. Really not on and she should be taken for all she has.
