Car Scrappage Scheme

On cars that aren't all that desirable. Not many people want 2.0 small family cars. Whereas there's bumfights outside Hyundai Dealers over the last base spec 1.2 i20.

I got a great deal the other day from the show room in Pangbourne. Went there while my car was being fixed and they were willing to give me 7k off if i traded my clio in

Getting a discount of more than £3,500 on a new car over and above the £2,000 scrappage allowance with some extras thrown in as well is quite some achievement

Your boss must have attended a very good negotiating skills course ;)

Proves it can be done.
The £3k was available by ordering online, he only haggled the extra £500

The scrappage scheme isn't for the benefit of drivers.. it is for the benefit of the car industry and the extra income from VAT. It was never intended to benefit drivers...

Agreed, but there ARE some good deals out there which can be pushed even further with the scrappage scheme, obviously only of relevance if the £2k is more than you'd get for your car and you're looking to buy anyway though.

Common sence. No business that was selling a car for £X is then going to sell the car for £X-£1000 over night, without trying to recoup atleast some of that loss.

Your a shop owner selling boxes of sweets for £10. The government gives everyone £1 to you in your shop, and promises you will give them another £1 off when they come to you. You go "ok, thats fine, but ill take my 10% discount offer off then."
But Haribo are the ones that have agreed to meet the discount not Johnny's Corner Shop, so it comes out of the manufacturers profit, not the dealers. Individual dealers can't opt out of the scheme, because its organised at the manufacturers level.
