Car suggestions for graduate with £2,700

If all he's looking for is a fun car and decent performance then I'd recommend something Japanese and turbocharged, mr2 turbos offer great performance for the money and £2.7k will get you a nice revision 3 with a few mods.

Harry, tell him he can borrow my rx7 for a year and pay me £600 a month.

On a serious note, it's a wonder your mom isn't going "oh no, you're not driving that coffin on wheels, i'll buy you a micra"

Mate, you know my family way too well.

She's been sending me worried messages all week and here I am suggesting Supras and Scoobies! :D

I'm just blown away that you can buy some of these cars for under 3K.

Nice suggestions lads!! RX7 would be my top choice but I can't see him getting too far with that idea when insurance is concerned.

My money would be going on an mr2 turbo or 200sx if he needs a little bit more space, whilst 300zx's and gto turbos look good they break, lots and the nissan in particular is a nightmare to work on. The supra pictured is really getting on now too, not ideal as an only car.

The big jag is interesting and something like the vr4 is a good car too but I would be spending way less than 3k on one. Plus it depends on how he rates the looks.

Not sure I would want an rx7, last time I looked that kind of cash wasnt buying a good turbothat had had a decent rebuild etc. Plus you've got to really be into them to keep one imo

Edit* just realised the mums car bit....surely no older woman would be seen anywhere near these types of car? Wouldn't be a great idea (not that it ever is) to be fronting whilst driving something like this either - police and insurance would be awfully suspicious

Wouldn't a tidy e36 328i sport or something like an e46 325ti be better?

I read that as, he's been on his mum's insurance for the last four years so currently has no ncb.

When I was doing my research into mr2s the insurance compared to cars of a similar performance (scoobys, even rs clios) the mr2 was a fair amount cheaper, even with mods. Now I have the car on a classic policy 6k miles a year with all mods declared for £280, a bargain for what it is.

yeah just re-read looks like I picked it up wrongly.

My tubby was awfully cheap to insure compared to anything else too, loved it at the time and if they weren't getting on a bit (with the newer imports being a fortune to buy) i'd have another - they're certainly worth a look, he will just need to make absolutely sure he plays nicely in the wet.

Some people... *rolleyes*

He's had to change his mind a little now. After finding out how much money he can save by paying off the insurance in one lump sum, he now has a cap on the initial insurance payment too.

Changes a lot so Ive adjusted the first post.

What would you buy now?
