Car suggestions for graduate with £2,700

There's being a noob with cars then there's something else, we were all noobs with cars at some point but these specifications are just mind boggling. Someone who want a post 06 car that's big, fun and powerful sub 2L for £2.7k, with insurance of less than £2k, has £600 a month for running costs, £600 would keep most utter sheds alive for quite a while, but wont have a sub 06 car due to reliability?

And here we have the issue.

Providing enough information to allow a general idea isn't enough for some. However, provide too much detail and some can't see beyond the figures and need every detail to be explained to the nth degree.

My apologies for any frustration caused. He's sitting here with a world of options and honestly doesn't know what to do and will undoubtedly change his mind (i.e. now he's leaning towards essentially a boat on wheels with low reliability issues).

Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions and considerations, it is honestly appreciated. I'm sure most can understand the bewildering chasm of options when buying your first car.

I'll definitely make this suggestion, it really is the most sensible and is certainly the consensus here.

He really wants to buying something now that satisfies him for 5 years. Patience is a virtue.

For his first car?! Nobody who cares about cars can be satisfied with a first car for 5 years. His tastes will evolve and develop as he gets experience.

I'm slightly annoyed at the moment. He's been looking at two cars that I know of but he "wants to surprise me" and refuses to tell me what he's really looking at.

Don't know why I bother sometimes.

He almost considered a Hyundai Coupe and seriously considered a Vectra, but today he's going to view a car which is neither of these and feels it might be the one.

Hyundai Coupe? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3804430.htm

Is he still living with your mom? I know a good cheap garage they can use near your old house.

Nice Bez. He is going to be staying at my Moms house for quite a while too. Yeah email that garage mate. Thanks! I bet it's the garage opposite the park by Bob's house.

The Hyundai Coupe seems like the most intelligent choice actually.
