Car theft - is it out of control?

The whole country is out of control. I’ve added more security to our house in an attempt to at least secure things a bit more. Ultimately no one gives a toss about anything in society anymore.

When you are told you have a handful of police to manage a town and surrounding area of 100+K. It is quite scary.

Government will spin it saying there are more police than ever but fail to say that population has gone up 10 million since that time.

Out of the developed western world we are the worst by quite some margin. (England and Wales). Scotland fares a little better with NI top (for obvious reasons).

i felt sorry for him... iirc (and it was a while ago so appologies if not exact) he had been robbed half a dozen times and the police had told him there was nothing they could do as he was remote.

he had signs up warning people he had a gun and would shoot on sight.

Over all I do think he had to have a prison sentence, but were i in his shoes i can definitely imagine feeling completely justified at the time.

His mistake was calling the cops afterwards and not just burying them in a field tbh. Thieves don't tend to tell people where they are going :D

Boosting police officer numbers isn't all it seems either; Police Scotland for example have huge numbers of police officers filling roles that could, should and once were done by police staff, which is how the SNP got away with saying the number of police officers would be maintained for years. The same will be true to varying extents in other forces too, and while some of those will be due to sickness, injury, mental health and disciplinary proceedings there'll be plenty who are there because it's cheaper than recruitment.

I still cant get my head around not wanting to own something you can afford, and want, because you fear someone else will take it off you. That's a weak mentality but hey, crack on

Isn't it a sign of a good society when you can claim whatever you want? Isn't that freedom? The balancing point is that it gets politely laughed out of court. Which you'd hope it did.
in an ideal world with infinite resources sure..... but when actual serious crimes are taking ages to prosecute then no....

It was property of a very big movie franchise/film, and not to be made profit from... Least of all by scumbags breaking the law.
Yes but it was what the DVSA/Police required.

It was 1 of 5 ever made IIRC too, and 1 of 1 in this colour/interior... Either way it was their duty to crush it by law, not to steal it and export it to someone in Dubai.
You would never have gotten away with owning/driving it in this country due to what it is and where it's from.

The insurance company weren't wrong to send it to us, it didn't run, had insane amounts of electrical/water damage, and would have cost literal millions to have fixed due to the replacement parts that said manufacturer for that limited run car, would not supply due to it being 1 of 5... They however managed to fix the original parts and bypass certain things to make it run, whilst the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree, knowing them they probably took the cluster out and just cracked all the bulbs so none lit up before exporting it lol.

I would have rather seen it crushed versus a known family of tax avoiding and in general scumbags make a ridiculous profit for it. The wealth they already have due to the poor pay/way they treated their employees, made them rich anyway, they didn't need this money, and it wasn't theirs to earn/nor the car to take.

Considering how legendary it was, it should have been allowed to die, as that's what happened to it in the movie, versus some rich guy in Dubai thinking he's allowed it illegally exported.

They are a perfect example of how if you know the right people you could export stolen cars.
Nice story

2 of my colleagues have had there Range Rover Sports taken, new version, so physical break in to take the keys. Advice has always been leave your keys on show once inside the house. Cos they make a real mess looking for them or worse threaten you in the bedroom with weapons...

I think i prefered the relay thefts.
