Morning.

Tried to get in my car last night and the central locking wouldn't unlock with the key fob. :( I thought the batteries in the fob might be dead as I went out in really cold weather a week ago and it killed the batteries. (the keys were in the top of my rucksack all day).

that time I eventually got the fob to work by warming it.

Last night I noticed that the alaram red light wasn't flashing on the dash - hmmmm, flat car battery? I unlocked the car door with the key - the alarm should have gone off but didn't. I can turn the ignition on but the hazards flash and I can't start the car. i.e. still immobilized.

Anyone wanna take a guess at weather it's the key fob or car battery?

I'm about to cycle to Halfords to buy both new. I'll try the keyfob battery 1st. If this works would Halfords take the car battery back and give me my money back?

If it's neither of these.......?

Your going to carry a car battery on a bike, good luck to you.

They will give you a refund if you need to take it back, sounds more like your fob though.

yeah, it's gonna be fun! In a rucksack on my back won't be too bad.........

oh, and I tried the spare fob too. The red light lights up on both fobs. Not super bright......hmmmm

I'm beginning to not like Subaru's... :(

you can't 'not like' a car because the batteries in the fob go flat!

To check the car battery, ignition on, headlights on, fans on. Is everything working as it should? Then the car battery is fine.

if you knew my history with Subaru's then you'd understand.

so anyway, new battery in car and fobs, still don't start. Looks like the immobiliser is having a paddy. There's a keypad in the car but I don't have the 4 digit number. There was a business card in the owners manual from where the car was originally bought form 10 years ago. They want a copy of the v5 and id and they'll give me the number.

In the mean time the car's just been towed away by my mates from the garage. No doubt they've stripped the whole alarm system out by now!?

fitted by the dealer when brought over into the country new. It's a Sigma 30. the nechanic just rang and reckons the alarm is knackered and needs ripping out.

Anyone any experience if Sigma alarms? He says they're poo

Could be something as silly as wiring being iffy. My Focus Mk2 died over Christmas with what I thought might be an immobiliser fault but it turned out to be a problem with the Earth wire connection - moisture had gotten in there during the heavy snow/ice and knackered the wire.

Goto Scoobynet or SIDC

There is plenty of information on there about it.

just dound this on Honest john's.co.uk

"Cars fitted by the importer with SIGMA immobilisers are vulnerable to radio waves emitted by TETRA AIRWAVE security services communications masts and require new shielded SIGMA immobilisers".

hmmmm?

off another website;

"Cars with Sigma immobilisers can prove susceptible to interference; the only cure is to replace the immobiliser with an upgraded one".

yeah, nice one Subaru!
