carcraft stories, you gotta read this

hands up whos buying their next car from carcraft. That is discusting.
But..... they are playing on people who dont know what there doing, get clued up first, make sure you full understand finance and you dont want warrenties or protection and you'll be fine. Plus, there is no way if you knew anything about buying a car you would go to carcraft, some supermarkets are ok, but they slap at least 1000 on each price, then charge you 20% APR.
No excuse for lies though, they should be shut down! get some undercovers in there with a camera.

The author of that site has made a comedy of errors that were completely avoidable.

He is also completely unrealistic in moaning about wearing parts eg. tyres and glow plugs and items that are clearly stated as a recall - he needs to take that up with the dealer or manufacturer.

A Carcraft employee told my Dad "Carcraft exist to sell cars to idiots". Sounds about right in this case.

we went to carcraft to test drive some cars for a company car scheme (obviously they didn't know that). They couldn't even arrange a simple test drive and it took them an hour to get the car out. When they did they allowed us to drive about half a mile on a 30mph with 2 roundabouts, and not a step further. Absolute rubbish.

Places like Carcraft exist to sell cars to people who would otherwise be driving around in a P reg escort, they can't afford to goto a main dealer or no-one else will give them a finance agreement, thats why the cars are so overpriced, these people have no other option (Well other than not buying a car they can't actually afford, but hey thats just logical).

The company is still in business cause plenty of muppets exist who seem eager to sell a kidney just to get that 7k focus...........

that's so true. For people who have no other option, places like Carcraft and the now defunct Yes! car credit are the only kind of placea they could get a car from. Anyone else who buys there that can afford to go elsewhere is a muppet incarnate.

Having now read the whole saga, it seems like he's blowing the whole thing out of proportion.

1. He bought a duff car to begin with - His problem for not checking it before hand.
2. The warranty people were within their rights to withold payment because the turbo hadn't actually failed.

I think he was lucky to get Carcraft to pay for the repairs. I certainly wouldn't have expected them to do so.

my thoughts exactly, but the .txt files are the more interesting read!

they are a disgraceful bunch on a par withe the now defunct yes car credit

if ever I'm in the area and have a couple of hours to kill I reckon I might go in for a bit of sport , nothing better than going through all the crap with them and then just laughing and walking off :D

very childish I know but I have tried it with timeshare folks and it's very entertaining :p

Just been reading all the stories, you do have to be a mug to buy from these sort of places though, I'd imagine they have something like 20% APR, me and my dad were looking for a car ages ago and came across a place like that so went in and the receptionist asked if we had any trouble getting finance, my dad replied no and she said don't even bother coming in then, we'll only rip you off lol.

Dear dear. Reading that txt document it seems that these people are just plain dumb. Examples that made me chuckle:

The document we signed said 'apr 19%' but the salesman assured me I would only be paying 8% apr. I thought it dodgy but I signed it anyway. (omg is all i can say)

I got the car home and saw that the airbox was smahed to bits. (oh dear don't say you never even lifted the bonnet and the 1.2l engine sounded like a turbine when you drove home???).

Honestly people this stupid deserve to get walked over.

Like has already been mentioned.
People that goto Car Craft have no other option. They have a poor credit score and are therefore a risk where lending money is concerned and attract very high rates.

If these people really must upgrade their car then they have to pay more £££’s than the rest of us better credit rating folk.

Carcraft are not in the same league as Yes Car Credit - they position themselves as a reputable Car Supermarket. Having been to a branch it took me about 2 minutes to work out they were hard selling overpriced, tarted up auction fodder with a warranty, but I would consider myself to have a reasonable knowledge of the workings of the motor trade. Many people do not and see the glossy adverts, promises of a decent warranty and claims of low prices and like the supermarket method of buying and think a big company won't rip them off.

Unfortunately they give car supermarkets a bad name, some of them are great. I got my last car from Fords of Winsford and I daresay I'll go back there next time around because it was actually a pleasure to buy from them, visiting most car dealers these days is like pulling teeth.

Rotty - I really wouldn't bother trying to play at Carcraft, it wouldn't be any fun. They make you watch some dreary presentation for 10 minutes, keep you hanging around for ages (lots of motor trade places do this, is it some kind of selling technique?) and are generally disorganised. I laughed at them when I went in and they weren't bothered - I suspect they get it all the time.

ok, this may give people the wrong impression about car supermarkets, which I dont want because I have had good experiences with them, the good one I know of is hilton garage, another is motorpoint, my experience with hilton went like the following,
find car on website (ghia x mondeo)
go in and find cars on the site (they had 6/7)
find a salesman and ask for the key,
salesman fetches me 3 keys (titanium x mondeo (155), st220 petrol model and the 130 ghia x) gives me a pair of trade plates and tells me to go look around and drive around in them.
choose one, poke around it and go back to salesman
try to negotiate the price but its really a take it or leave it kinda place, their prices seemed to be fixed.
get offered finance, they didnt try to sell me it, merely offered it.
they tried to sell me gap insurance but when I said no they backed down
collected the car a week later.

I really like the straight forward dealing I had with them, no faffing around, if you like the car buy it ( the car was at a very reasonable price, not 1k over book)

also the brake disks on mine were warped (the wheel shook while breaking) so I rang them up a week later after purchase and told me to send a quote from the local dealer as proof of the fault and then ask them to bill the garage for the disks.
