Last time you were taking pictures of rehersals it resulted in naked men....

And people think I have issues :p

Serious note, nice images and good to see something different from you :) - It's very refreshing! Number 16 is brilliant!

Great photos as always.

Is that a little bit of dirt on your sensor, or maybe even a defective pixel that I see just above 'Raymond' on 6, 7, 8, 9, 16 and 20? It's very clear on 6, then not just so clear on the rest, but still there.

On the topic of the defective pixel - what causes this?

i love your work! :D

I forgot to say thanks for the compliment, so thank you :).

I used the 35/1.4, 85/1.8 & 135/2.0 for all the above. It was shot wide open on all shots there and at ISO 800 in order i get 1/125th and above on all shots. Which was difficult as the lighting wasn't great, high ceiling with only about 8 lights to lit the entire space wasn't really sufficient. I tried the 24-70 but it was pushing it at 2.8.

The last shot is challenging as not only as the girls were picked up, the also got moved to the side as they were picked up. So AI Servo tracking for that using outer points too....pushing the 5Dii's Auto focus to the limit there. It came out well though, especially at 1.4.

I'm not surprised.

Photographing these events is always a pain due to the fast action and the restrictions with the low light levels + not being able to bounce a flash all over the place.

I never get shots i'm happy with and just have to make do with grain from massively upping the ISO.

hence why i was agreeing at how difficult it was

lack of ability to use flash + low light + fast action + stage lights all over the place make for a complete photographers nightmare.

its not only that, you will find out how different colour lights affect the sensor and for some reason, RED is worst, and blue isn't so bad.

I remember having to shoot a gig that used red almost exclusively, had to resort to converting every shot to black and white.

How do you selective focus ? I was trying it out the other day...

I can move the focus point around the viewfinder with the DPAD. This works but is slow especially for those kind of shots ^

I can focus on something, lock the focus and move the camera, it has 51+3d tracking enabled...this doesnt work, the focus point moves.

I can focus on something, lock focus, and wait for subject to move...this doesnt work either, camera just focuses on where i left the square focal point :S

Agree on the point about Red - any gig shots I've ever done it's been horrid, Blue has always had good results.

Luckily at quite a few of the gigs I know the lighting engineer and tell him to slack off with the red :p

You need Auto Servo turned on.
