My new compact digital camera arrives today and I cannot wait.

I've been after something better than my rubbish 2mp Fuji point and shoot camera for a while now.

The Casio EX-Z750 is a 7.2MP camera and seems to fit the exact bill for me. Compact so I can carry it around places and travel with it easilly, plenty of point and shoot "best shot" modes which I'd probably use 90% of the time, but unlike my current camera, it provides quite a few manual options which I hope to have a play with and start to learn a bit more. I realise it's not going to take the sorts of pics you'd get with a Canon EOS camera or anything, but it's a starting point.

One of the features that really appealed to me is the 640*480 @ 30fps video it captures. Unlike most other cameras, it compresses the Video using MPEG-4 so you can fit a half reasonable amount on the memory card (30mins HQ, 3 hours LQ on a 1 gig card). I think the Ixus line of cameras don't use compression and only store 7 mins or osmething silly on a 1 gig card.

Using video to capture the moment is something I do a lot with my phone, and being able to capture something a bit better quality sounds ace.

DPReview seems to praise the camera.

It's being dicontinued and replaced by a 8.x MP versions so the Z750 seems to be hard to find, with as far as I can tell only one competitor having had any stock recently (and they went from 70+ in stock to sold out within a day). They're selling it for the bargain price of about £150+ VAT, and a 1 gig SD card for £15 + VAT.

I notice from having done a search that this camera is rarely mentioned on here, with people generally preferring the Canon Ixus 55 (or similar) in this kind of price bracket. DPReview has loads of positive user comments plus a decent review for anyone who is interested - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Casio/casio_exz750.asp.

I'm sat waiting for the courier and will post more opinion once I have it.

:) I've spoken to you on irc about this, and think it looks absolutely fantastic for the type of camera it is. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it :)

:D

It arrived about 8:30 and has been sat charging the battery since about 9am, so I probably have another hour or more to go yet... come on damn it [/impatient]

Just been out to take a few shots and I'm really pleased with it... cannot beleive I paid about the same price only 3 or 4 years ago for a 2mp point and shoot with no manual options whatsoever.

Pretty impressed with the amount of detail on the wasp when cropped and enlarged, shame it's a touch overexposed:

Had fun with pics of water etc playing with different shutter speeds to make the water look fast moving and slightly blurred, or to capture it perfectly still as it splashes.
