Does anyone have a definitive answer about what the process is after a car has been stolen and then recovered?

What if the VIN is defaced?

Do you have to have it VIC checked?

CAT C needs to have a VIC, CAT D just an MoT as far as i'm aware.

Not sure what would happen if the VIN is defaced though, as that's the main identity marker.

They used to put cars on a Q plate with lost ID, dont know what they do now.

I have the opportunity of buying a VIN defaced Cat x stolen recovered. There are still some identifying mark (not all VIN numbers removed) Does that mean the DVLA will be funny or does it require a simple VIC test?

I'd call the DVLA and ask them directly. If they have doubts about the identity of the shell then you could end up with a Q plate.
