I had to take a chance because if I just took the 3 points the DVLA would revoke my licence (New Drivers Act 1995) so went to court to ask for a Short term ban as I needed my licence for my living.
Anyways court gave me 4 points and they £100 fine
Oh well repassed my test within a month.
