Cayman and Antilles release price

there are still many enthusiasts that will still pay top dollar out there unfortunately.

so gfx card prices for the real high end stuff will constinue to be high.

I can spend around £100 on a new graphics card I would be happier.
Yeah . . . I'd say the new HD 6850 is about £100 pounds worth of GPU! ;) . . . of course something is only worth as much as the majority are prepared to pay for it . . . so if the majority think the HD 6850 is worth £300 then they will be sold for £300! :o

Hello crackerbear :)
Hello :)

Are you sure about that? :D . . . . I think the prices have been artificial raised by the e-vendors and will most likely go back down as soon as people stop buying them (hint hint!) . . . prices on the HD 6850/70 will be going back down for sure when the next set of cards gets released . . .
From what I can tell, the prices don't look like they'll fall. It was only really 1 or 2 retailers that had the 6850/6870 at that low price and both on pre-order. The rest of the other retailers, Overclockers included, had the prices already at £150 and £200.

I am led to believe that not that may folks are happy spending over £150 on a GPU these days . . . . so its up to the manufacturers to battle it out and offer the most value possible around this "sweetspot" . . . the days of £300 splurges are long gone! :p
If I'm to buy a new graphics card (and I do as my current one is broken), I'm pretty much forced to spend at least £150. This will be my most I'll ever have paid for a graphics card and it's a shame because in order to power 1920x1080 resolution with reasonable graphics settings that's to also last me a few years, you have to spend that much.

not that many . . .

All the cards out now are "real high end stuff" . . . its funny how an extra 10FPS can elavate a cards price so much . . . I'm really just sitting back until xmas to see the whole range before spending £125-£150 . . .

Even if the HD 6870 was £150 I would still think twice about buying one! . . . . a GTX 460 768MB at £100 would probably prove to hard to resist though! :p

I bought my HD4830 512MB early last year for around £50 and it was brand new as far as I could tell. I usually overclock the core by 100MHZ to 125MHZ which brings it closer to an HD4850 512MB.

ATI Tray Tools is fantastic for this as you can set custom 2D and 3D clocks.

The most I have spent on a graphics card was for an HD3870 GDDR4 for £150 at launch(the 8800GT was far more expensive at the time) and I still use it in another PC.

I fully expect the 6950 to be around the £300 mark atleast on release and probably somewhere closer to £330 and the 6970 possibly quite considerably above that. Price does depend a lot as to whether nVidia have any credible competition (seems unlikely) and other things like exchange rate.

YOu always do it in $ not £ pounds dont mean **** when these cards are based on AMD pricings for USA market. Were just a little island.

6870 $599
5870 $399
5850 $299
5830 $249
5770 $169

6870 $599
6970 $399
6950 $299
Barts
6870 $249
6950 $189

I just cant see these card being any more EXPENSIVE than the 5*** series.
The 40nm is mature. The cores are smaller and more efficient. When 5 series came out there was no competition.
Of course we live on a small island called the rip off Britian. RRP should be £300 but we will end up paying closer to £350.....

The HD 6850/ & HD 6870 doesn't cost that much to produce right? . . . fair enough there is some R&D costs £££ to recover and some Hype-Machine (marketing/advertising) budget £££ to recover but neither of those cards are revolutionary . . . more evolutionary really . . . just another GPU . . .

If something comes out that *smokes* everything else and offers an extra 50%-75% frame rates then you would expect to see some big mamma prices! :p . . . saw a HD 5870 get sold today in MM for £160! . . . that's a £270 pound GPU . . . . the much loved MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express has been on today only for £149.99 inc and there is still 10 units left . . .

Buyers are getting more discerning these days . . . I would say the people who don't think twice before spending £200-£300 on a GPU are few and far between in this tough economic climate . . . the manufacturers know this so will have to work *extra* hard to get those hard earned notes out of peoples wallets! :D
