Hello,

Picture

Cutting a long story short, does any one know if the bit highlighted in green is a standard part on the ST205. I beginning to think that it isn't as you can see red paint.

Reason why I am asking is because I believe that that bit is very slightly bent (where the rust/paint has flaked off) and thus does not drive in a straight line (this is after being to toyota for alignment).

They are GAB shocks (bought with the car) and having looked over the net have not found anything like that bit highlighted. So if I cannot get a replacement part, I'll be looking at new shocks.

Would it also be possible if any owners could post a picture of thier st205 shocks.

The shock in the picture is on the front passenger side.

Thank you all for your help.

Ok I dont have a st205, but I have an import ss-iii st202. Both our cars use toyota's superstrut suspension and that to be honest is what that looks like, looks like a standard strut. Superstrut suspension is meant to be difficult to do the alignment for, so it may just be its not done correctly. I'm still learning about it though as I only picked my car up a week ago :p

Good call.

Next question, are they all the same size or would I need to purchase GAB superstruts?

Also, are they easy to fix???

Thank you for your reply.

Well, generally anything to do with superstrut seems to be both hard to find and expensive, also the links do wear out about 60k miles it seems (mine were replaced by the previous owner at 55k) perhaps the problem is with one of the links?

Anyway rather than offer you some bad advice, as i say i'm still finding out about this suspension design myself, i'd suggest talking to the guys at either the celica club uk, or the toyota owners club, someone there will be able to give you a definitive answer :)

Yeh that's definately a standard part on the ST205 - you've got the infamous fig8 joint at the bottom of your picture which connects the forward lower arm to the bottom of the shock absorber.

yeah, I have checked out toyoa owners club but still waiting a reply. Will have a look at celica club uk.

To be honest it not my car but my fathers, so if I suggest anything then he tends not to listen :o ;).

Reason why we think something is bent is that my father lent it to my brother (previous owner) and slid the car into a kerb - apparently moments afterwards his incident a suped up ford focus did exactly the same thing. Needless to say he is not happy at the thought that the suspension *might* need replacing and thus in a grumpy mood.

Thank you for your help and don't lend your car out to anyone else :p .

Edit: thank you for the pictures megakid.

You say that is a standard part, so if I were to get a replacement then it will be the same size and that the previous owner just painted his red?
