Can someone recommend a good quality but not too expensive chain saw? I will be getting one for my brother-in-law who needs one to cut up logs. What other accessories should i be looking at? cheers

Dunno about chainsaw itself, but I'd highly recommend some tarpaulin or plastic sheets to put on the ground so that the blood doesn't soak into the carpet.

You'll be needing one of these:

Get some leg protectors/trousers. I've heard of some terrible injuries from a forrester mate.

And when you're finished illegally harvesting all the uk's christmas trees, drop one off at mine please!

I have both a Stihl and a cheap Ryobi and the Stihl is by far the better machine. Easier to start, higher quality finish and seems more durable however it is more expensive than the Ryobi. The Ryobi is good though and cuts through 12 inch thick branches with ease.

Make sure you get suitable protection for head and face, leg and feet.

Stihl for me - very easy to use and reliable.

Please, please ensure he gets proper protective gear and adequate training. It's sooooooooooooo easy to slip up with horrendous results.

Don't do it! If you can't wield a chainsaw with skill, you don't deserve to breed. Take down 'danger of death' signs at railways, take the guard rails away from cliffs and rivers and NEVER put a warning label on a power tool. If you don't know it's dangerous, you shouldn't be using it.

go and hire one from the likes of you can hire etc. They can supply all protective clothing etc.

Be carefull though, they are very very dangerous machines.

+ Good build quality

+ Durable, often lasting hours

+ Easy to use, point and fire her up

+ Cuts through thick branches, trees, logs, abdomens, skulls, legs with ease and precision

- Large, bulky machine

- Somewhat old school styling employed by designers

All in all a quality chainsaw, but please were protective armour :)
