Ive just upgraded my wireless network (with great difficulty) from a D-Link 22mbps setup to a Netgear 108mbps setup

The new setup has a seperate wireless Router and modem

All internet traffic bar MSN messenger and any website that uses the Passport system like hotmail just will not connect

For example on hotmail it will load the main page, allow me to enter my username and password but will not go on from there.

MSN messenger will not sign in

Hotmail via Outlook Express will also not connect :(
Gives the following error:

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number: 0x80004005

Anyone got any idead before I throw the lot out of the window :(

sounds like a prot is blocked. Thought this is most unusual, normally pre blocked ports are obscure numbers that most people never use. Sure your cookie settings etc. are right? do other secure logins work??

its nothng to do with the ISP. the LAN connection says limited or no connectivity, which means the DHCP client has been unable to get an IP addres from the router.

Where does it say that?

Its Nildram and all settings are correct for that including MTU set to 1500

If I plug the modem directly into my pc via a network cable then everything works perfectly

Problems only arise when I plug the modem into the routers uplink port then all I get is everything but hotmail, outlook, msn

soo blummin infuriating lol

Blocked port. check the routers config and manual for any blocked ports. Is this supplied by your employer?? sometimes they block ports for certain things. Do other secure logins to sites work or is it just hotmail??

No its my own item purchased by myself, other secure sites work yes.

Don't know if this helps or not, but at work we never buy netgear routers as we had *exactly* the same problem as you.

We put a netgear router into a company and they couldn't get passport working - and a few secure websites failed to work as well. Replaced it with a Thomson router and all was hunky dory.

Ive sorted it out now

Had to set MTU to 1400 on the Router despite Nildram specifically saying it had to be 1500 on their website.

bingo EVERYTHING WORKS !!!
