I installed my new 12GB of G.Skill RipJawsX RAM about 2 hours ago, and I've just taken it out again, because my system seems incapable of operating for 2 whole minutes when it's installed. And the Windows effects (transitions etc) aren't as smooth when it's installed. I've finally put my old RAM back in and everything is fine again.

Don't suppose anyone knows what might be up?

The RAM itself is fine by the way (passes mem tests).

Thanks

Motherboard?

Make and model of old RAM?

Make and model of new RAM?

Have you set the speed, timings and voltage manually or are they on auto settings in the BIOS?

Mobo: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R

Old RAM: OCZ 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Triple Channel Memory Kit for i7 Motherboards CL8 1.65V

New RAM: G-Skill 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V

All using XMP

Cheers

Did you check with CPU-Z that the XMP profile had been correctly set for the new RAM?

It might be easier just to set the speed, timings and voltage manually in the BIOS so that you know they're correct.

Gigabyte recommend you use the white slots with 3 sticks of RAM.

Hows does the system run with the memory at 1333mhz rather than 1600mhz.

I had issues 2 years ago ~ with my i7 setup with the OCZ Gold memory, the first set would fail Mem Test and the second set would pass men test but coursed stability issues. in the end I returned the OCZ and went with Patriot memory.

OK, turns out it's not fixed. The voltage is now 1.58.

What happens is actually very consistent. One program will freeze it what appears to be a normal way and will be faded out by Windows 7. Windows Explorer won't respond and Task Manager won't come up, and then other programs will stop responding within about 10 seconds until nothing does anything. However, the mouse will operate just fine, and num lock and caps lock are still functional (USB connection).

Then I have to cut the power.

Does this offer any more insight?

Thanks
