Has anyone else made any significant donations to charity, not talkin numbers here, more proportional.

I'm seriously considering giving at least half of what I get tomorrow to charity. I'll definitely be giving something. I've not had too good of a year this year and I dont think I'll be enjoying christmas anyway so I thought I may as well make someone else happy if I cant.

I must confess, i am not a huge provider to charities. Yes i have taken part in numerous fund raising events for many charities but that has been collecting for them and not giving money i have earnt.

Every penny counts though, so i'll see what happens when i get paid on the 29th. :)

I've also done a few fund raisers in the past and have spent over a year working for charities.
But have never made regular donations. just change in the pots in shops n stuff like that.

Being a student, I earn the wholesome sum of £10 a week. Yesterday I donated £15 to Oxfam to buy a desk and two chairs for a school in the Southern Phillipines. :)

I usually buy a big issue around this time of year, but haven't been well enough to trek out. :(

Don't tend to make lump donations but I make a reasonable monthly donation to the Royal British Legion.

I am sure any charity will be greatful for whatever they get though.

We don't normally make donations but we're thinking of not sending out cards and donating the money to charity instead. Last year me and my mum went round the local hospital with a group singing carols, kind of charitable :o

Dont you worry that most of what you actually give wont reach those you gave it for?

My own view of the 84 million charities in this country is that most of them are set up to pay their founders large wages whilst donating not a lot. I could be wrong of course, so if any one's going to say I am, please show me why ;)

just so that you know, i am now a registered charity :). Nah but seriously if i was to give a large amount to any charity it would be a lukemia/cancer charity for personal reasons

I can't help but feel the same way, and I've given quite a bit of my own time and sweat for charity events.

Depends on the organisation and the manner in which it is donated.

I'm a trustee of my local branch of a charity and the donations we recieve at branch level go straight into the funds for use by the volunteers to carry out our work.

Yeah because of a load of trouble caused by the likes of Oxfam a number of years ago, things are a lot better with how your money is spent.
Especially if you make regular donations to the big charities you can usually specify what causes your money goes towards.
Most try to keep running costs seperate from public donations these days

yeah i should really give something to charity this year...maybe £50 to CAFOD?

EDIT: You can give a goat for £25, he he I might buy two, now who can I buy a goat on behalf of??? :D

Karl Pilkington :)

I don't give money to charity, generally speaking. I don't trust that my money will be used wisely. I'd rather spend spare money on people who appreciate it - namely myself and my friends.
