hi all,

A mate has just come into a bit of money and has decided that he wants a project car. He has decided he wants to buy an american muscle car with a min engine capacity of a V8.

He wants one that needs lots of work, mechanically and body wise as he wants it to last at least a year. He is going to park it in his double garage, strip it, rebuild it and even try and spray it himself.

He is aware parts will be a problem but he is prepared for that.

Anyway, he needs suggestions of cars, as like me he has NO idea of the different types of car out there!

Post away.

:D

For me it would have to be a '69 Pontiac GTO (the '67 is cool too) or a '68 Dodge Charger RT. I don't claim to know a lot about these cars apart from the fact that they look and sound crazy.

how the hell is he gonna do this if he doesnt even know what types of American cars are about?

a uk-spec car with a v8 conversion would be a much cheaper, easier and VERY much cooler alternative.

as much as i would love a muscle car, i would look a right ******* wannabe driving around the uk in one. ever seen Saxondale?

a v8 mx5, capri, escort etc on the other hand is about as awesome as you can get.

He has already built a bike powered kit car, fitted a 1.8T engine into a mk2 golf and now wants to move onto something different. He knows quite abit about british cars but having never lived in the USA knows very little about the types of cars over there!

He wants something a little different, he has thought about doing another conversion but wants something to rebuild so he can use it for shows, meets etc. It wont be an everyday car.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, i will pass them along!

Isnt the '67 Pontiac GTO the car Vin Diesel drives in XXX?? Amazing car, would love one myself but could never afford the running costs!

ah seems like hes no chump then. if hes really serious about it, he couldnt do much better than a GTO but he would have trouble finding parts for that in the states let alone in the UK.

good luck to him

Why on earth does he want that as a project car?

Go down to your local merc dealer and buy a brand new C-class, that will be much better as a project car.

Maybe to learn to work on cars himself and be proud of what he managed to do

What the hell are you on about??

A project car is a car that he can strip down, totally rebuild, get to know everything about it. How can he do that with a new car?? Why would you want to? it works fine anyway so why tinker with it?

I see absolutely no reason for you posting the above in this thread!

He was referring to a thread posted a few months ago on here where someone claimed that they had bought a brand new C-Class as a project car

Lol, you missed a thread a while back, inside joke.

Well in that case i apologise :D

I never saw the thread, may have to go and have a search, sounds rather strange :D

Sorry jamoor

Import an old mustang would be the obvious answer. You can get american price guides online that would give you an idea for anything recent, I looked up '90 Nsx and trade price is 10k :)

Gotta be either a Camero SS or a Mustang.

Be different and get a Coupe de Ville or a Studebaker Commander ala The Karate Kid :)
