Just thought i would tell you guys about this super sweet deal!

Delta http://www.delta.com/home/index.jsp are launching new flights from Gatwick to JFK.

They are having an "opening" sale on the route for flights between November and April.

Continental http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/default.aspx (who fly Gatwick to Newark) are matching the prices.

Just did some random March dates on Expedia came to £170 in Economy or £620 in Business, both for return with all the taxes on.

I can vouch for the standard of Continental's Business as being very good, especially if it's on the 777.

Prices available until 7th Sep

Well Continental service in general is atrocious, however that is economy I am talking about. I'd choose Virgin/BA any day over them.

BA or virgin will want double the money though, £170 for return flights to NYC is the mutts!

I just paid £270 for a return ticket to NY with Virgin flying the last week of October. Not bad considering most other's wanted ~£400

ARGGHH nooo Continental. BAD NEWS. Plus you have to fly into Newark which is in New Jersey so all the people are mean..

BA and Virgin are excellent for customer service. USAirways also good, as are BMI.
Want bargain basement? Go IcelandAir from Heathrow. Get to the US via Iceland for pennies as their airline is heavily subsidised by their governement.
And actually the time you are on the plane is nearly exactly the same as any other route :D

Pfft, it blocks from mid-december to 2nd week of January. I wanted cheap flights back to the UK at xmas.

yeah i thought that would be the case... shame but they all bump them up at that time

Several airlines have sales on at the moment, you'll be able to get those kind of prices from Virgin and BA (at least for economy) for certain periods too if I remember correctly from when I looked a few days ago.

2 years ago I flew to NYC at the beginning on January and back again a week later with United for £149 + taxes.

You'll never get tickets that kind of price over the christmas period though, they'll only get cheap just after the new year.

Almost always used American for tranatlantic but now they have reduced legroom in economy ( to as bad as BA/Virgin ) so won't be using them again
