Top gear tried it and failed with italian marques, but what would you have bought, sub £10k supercar?

I reckon a Lotus Esprit Turbo could qualify, good low mileage examples around for under £10k...

Sadly I doubt I would fit in one...

What would be your used supercar buy?

I don't think you will get a supercar for 10K, no matter what Top Gear might lead you to think. Anything remotely of the breed that is 10K or less will be a total heap and a money pit!

Top gear reckon'd you can't get a supercar under £10k

I think with the esprit you can...

1984 Turbo Esprit
In Ice Blue Metallic, full blue leather trim, 31,250 genuine miles. 2 Previous owners, long MoT & Tax. Comprehensive Lotus Service History. Just had £1,000 Service (including cam belt change) by Lotus Sepecialist. Lift out glass roof, original stereo, bill of sale, sunroof bag etc. Looks & Drives Superb. 100% Reliable. Change of circumstances force reluctant sale. Stunning Looking Car, cannot be many left like this! Priced to Sell, No PX, Suit Enthusiast. £7,995

1986 Lotus Esprit S3
Calypso Red with leather interior, Only done 51,000 miles!, Recently serviced at Specialist garage, receipts provided. Maintained regardless of cost, recently around 2k engine (replaced head gasket Mar 2006) and clutch work (new clutch Dec 2006). New rear tyres Aug 2006. Fitted with CD stereo and speakers.
MOT'd and taxed. Perfect working condition . Comprehensive service history. Forced Sale due to House Move. I have owned the car for 3 years and has been 100% reliable. £9,000

1985 Lotus Turbo Esprit
Only 27,000 miles from new with all supporting documentation FSH from new. Recently re commisioned after being stored as part of a private sports car collection by the first owner. Half leather gold interior complimenting the black and gold exterior. Absolutely stunning condition. The recommisioning included carb, wastegate, brakes and engine overhaul which were completed to exacting standards and specification. This was carried out due to length of time the car had been unused. Too much detail to list here. The car has a brand new stainless exhaust. The original radio cassette is still fitted and fully functioning, it still has the original spec Goodyaer NCT's fitted which are also in good condition. The glass lift out roof still has its stowage bag and wind deflector present. the condition of the interior is superb and as you would expect of a 27,000 mile car. This car is in time warp condition. Please do not confuse this car with other well used examples. 0 miles since recommisioning completed as other commitments leave no time for the car to be enjoyed. If you have always wanted an S3 Turbo this is the one to have I have had a number of Esprits over the years, and this car can only be descrbed as superb. They are virtually impossible to find in this condition. While re commisoning I tried to iron out the comon problems associated with S3 Turbos of this age. Very Very Very reluctant sale!! Must be one of the best S3 Turbos in existance!!!! £10,995

Thats fiesta money!

Skyline GTR barely qualifies, Supra Doesnt, handling not good enuff, NSX does qualify...

Yes, I said not italian for this...

Got some front engined stuff as well that counts, such as Maserati..

Wouldnt include much out of japan except the NSX say.. rest are massed produced sports cars...

The lotus was a special car, and is remembered as such, hence why I chose it, and some nice examples can be found with low mileages for reasonable money..

Hi there

Too me a supercar is the following:-

Come on dude, lets stay on topic please...

Showing pics of your fave modern supercar isn't really gonna cut it...

The fact is the Esprit Turbo, or even an S3 V8, would outperform EVERY one of the cars Top Gear chose as they were all sheds on wheels...

Maybe the Esprit was cheap, but there is no doubt it was a budget supercar.. heck even 007 drove one... thats proof enough for me

:D

So come on, lets stay on topic, Budget supercars under £10k.. 928 was my choice number 2

what esprit, the lambo diablo?

Lol thats what I was thinking

:D

So by Jonny's reckoning If you buy an old supercar under £10k it loses its supercar status.. guess thats an end to classic supercars then..

Where do I say anything about rare? Some people may have said rare, but it isnt a conclusion... E-Type jag is rare now, but not a supercar... a british sports car... MGB same...

I just said that an M5, Supra and a few others arent supercars, they are just everyday sports cars...

A Skyline can be a supercar, but certainly not stock... NSX is a supercar, not really rare tho, or massive performance...

Mecedes SL isnt, Mclaren SLR is...

Most people don't need to be told what a supercar is, but one thing we can say for certain, there isnt many 4 door saloons that are..

However, I do agree that the Mclaren F1 is the finest supercar ever made
