Cheap Supercars under £10k

I still think a supra is a supercar.

For example, the veyron is 1001hp. It is called a supercar.

The bottom end of a supra 2jzgte will withstand 990hp, indefinetly (reasonably, atleast as long as a veyron) given a well looked after one.

NSX not for that price.

Skyline is just a quick jap turbo car, it's not a supercar in my book.

Ive seen an NSX listed at 10k book price. It was an american website and it was for the very oldest model with 100k miles on it. Being a Honda it should be good for it I figured, this was some years ago though so I dont have a source to quote. Maybe an American member could check this or does anyone know of the usa equalivant to parkers maybe, though even parkers wouldnt give a free quote for a 17 year old car.

clarkson himself used to recommend an italian car marker that used chevy v8's for engines. They spit flames out the back due to its relocatio to the rear and the now shortened exhausts.
De Tomaso is the name, apparently available for less then 10k.

I knew someone who bought an old Porsche 924 and swapped parts of a 944 over, a supercar? That was done for 5k odd

Evo used to review the v6 clio alongside supercars, is that 10k now?

Higher EGT (exhaust gas temperatures).

Someone i know of has a skoda estelle with an na rotary rx7 lump. He has a nice euro styled car and then one of these mounted sideways on the back. For some reason, the EGT's melt everything else.

the car:

I don't think you will get a supercar for 10K, no matter what Top Gear might lead you to think. Anything remotely of the breed that is 10K or less will be a total heap and a money pit!

http://www.esprit4sale.co.uk/Sale/UsedCarCentre.html

Top gear reckon'd you can't get a supercar under £10k

I think with the esprit you can...

1984 Turbo Esprit
In Ice Blue Metallic, full blue leather trim, 31,250 genuine miles. 2 Previous owners, long MoT & Tax. Comprehensive Lotus Service History. Just had £1,000 Service (including cam belt change) by Lotus Sepecialist. Lift out glass roof, original stereo, bill of sale, sunroof bag etc. Looks & Drives Superb. 100% Reliable. Change of circumstances force reluctant sale. Stunning Looking Car, cannot be many left like this! Priced to Sell, No PX, Suit Enthusiast. £7,995

1986 Lotus Esprit S3
Calypso Red with leather interior, Only done 51,000 miles!, Recently serviced at Specialist garage, receipts provided. Maintained regardless of cost, recently around 2k engine (replaced head gasket Mar 2006) and clutch work (new clutch Dec 2006). New rear tyres Aug 2006. Fitted with CD stereo and speakers.
MOT'd and taxed. Perfect working condition . Comprehensive service history. Forced Sale due to House Move. I have owned the car for 3 years and has been 100% reliable. £9,000

1985 Lotus Turbo Esprit
Only 27,000 miles from new with all supporting documentation FSH from new. Recently re commisioned after being stored as part of a private sports car collection by the first owner. Half leather gold interior complimenting the black and gold exterior. Absolutely stunning condition. The recommisioning included carb, wastegate, brakes and engine overhaul which were completed to exacting standards and specification. This was carried out due to length of time the car had been unused. Too much detail to list here. The car has a brand new stainless exhaust. The original radio cassette is still fitted and fully functioning, it still has the original spec Goodyaer NCT's fitted which are also in good condition. The glass lift out roof still has its stowage bag and wind deflector present. the condition of the interior is superb and as you would expect of a 27,000 mile car. This car is in time warp condition. Please do not confuse this car with other well used examples. 0 miles since recommisioning completed as other commitments leave no time for the car to be enjoyed. If you have always wanted an S3 Turbo this is the one to have I have had a number of Esprits over the years, and this car can only be descrbed as superb. They are virtually impossible to find in this condition. While re commisoning I tried to iron out the comon problems associated with S3 Turbos of this age. Very Very Very reluctant sale!! Must be one of the best S3 Turbos in existance!!!! £10,995

Thats fiesta money!

Skyline GTR barely qualifies, Supra Doesnt, handling not good enuff, NSX does qualify...

Well, it's almost 10k. You could probably find one (if you really wanted to) for under 10k. Maserati on the badge, 285bhp, 305lb.ft torque as standard (and tunable to over 440bhp) and the exotic flair of having to take the entire engine out to change the cam belts every 24,000. Now that's super!

im guessing that to be a super car it has to be fairly exotica as opposed to a mass produced production car i.e jap sports car

its just that some of the posts in this thread seem to suggest that a clio be a super car???? wtf yes its quick but realisticaly its a variant of a granny shopper hardly exotic

massarati
ferrari
nolan
ac
dax
de tommaso
bugatti
ruff
lotus
ultima
porsche
saleen
and countless others but renault??? i dont think so somehow

If somebody can show me where to buy a half decent Pantera De Tomaso I'll write a cheque out now!!! Im serious....

For a good example, your looking at double that - for a very good example your touching nearly 3 times that - and thats if you can find them...

I drove a countach and a pantera back to back in 1990 and even though the countach was my schoolboy wet dream, I prefered the Pantera.....

Like somebody said above - if you can buy something for £10k, the word SUPER has been dropped - As most SUPER cars will increase in value after a few years (for example - XJ220, F40, 959 porkie, etc etc).

You have to think what makes a car a SUPER car in the first place - its not just about speed, its about what it does at the time - The F40 and 959 where the first cars to top 200MPH (even though most people knew the 959 in standard trim would flat out at 196MPH).. The Jag XJ200 also was a feat of engineering at the time from a company that was going bust.

Current SUPER cars would include the Veron, not only because of the stupid BHP and speed, but the technical developements that they had to break to get the car to do it........And also because even James May went 253mph in one! Ferrai Enzo or the Maserati MC12 would be included but what else?

Supercar isn't purely based on power and performance. There are only a certain number of manufacturers who have ever made a supercar.

Most definetly. A supercar is not just about the performance, it's about the styling, driving experience and yes, the price and badge too. Also, a supercar must have a certain amount of rarity and exclusivity.

Renault and Vauxhall have never made a supercar, and I'd even contest the Nissan has.

On the Top Gear episode didn't the cars need to be mid engined and Italian?, or was that something else?. I think they set them rules to make sure they would end up with bangers. It wouldn't be fun if they just drove to the strip club without a problem.
