Hello, I am currently looking to register a uk.com domain, but most of the popular registrars I have looked at seem to cost £50-60 for a two year registration. Anyone know of a cheaper one anywhere?

thanks,

Unfortunately .uk.com domains are more expensive and offhand I don't know anywhere to get them cheaply - the base cost to providers is rather high :(

I believe Pipex/123-reg is the cheapest place you're going to get one. If you can wait, I should be able to find out for sure when I get back to work on Tuesday :).

Any particular reason you are going for a uk.com domain?
You are aware that this isn't a "Top Level Domain" rather a "Second Level Domain" - a company selling domains under the uk.com TLD?

£50 - £60 for two years actually isn't a bad price as the official price on these domains from the registrar is £65 for two years.

yeah im interested in this too, the only domain names that are good in my opinion are the ones wit .com or .co.uk, all the others sound like a cheapo alternative, even though i know this isn't the case, just my opinion.

Also com/co.uk names are so much more common and easy to remember unlike uk.com

Made the mistake of using Namesco as it was £10 cheaper, I am trying to transfer it to 123-reg now as I have all my domains there, all I am getting from Namesco is hassle, in the way that each person I speak to there has a different view on how to transfer the domain, I am really  with them.

Basically this is what needs to happen:

1. I request that the billing handle is changed for the domain
2. I tell 123-reg that the billing handle is changed and complete the transfer.

The Namesco story is:

1. I request that the billing handle is changed for the domain
2. I ask 123-reg to ask Centralnic to request a billing handle change
3. Centralnic forward the request on to Namesco who then change the handle
4. I tell 123-reg that the billing handle is changed and complete the transfer.

123-reg said that I simply need to tell Namesco to change the handle, and complete the transfer in my 123-reg control panel.

Anyone any ideas?

thanks,

Adrian.

The normal process, afaik, is like how 123-reg described it. First ask Namesco to 'release' the domain name (there might be an option in the control panel) which will permit the domain name being moved away from them. Then you can then initiate the transfer in your 123-reg control panel - see here, and 123-reg should do the rest.

Probably a bit late, but with regards to the cheapest, it appears I don't have the details I thought I might.

True, anyway due to the awkwardness of Namesco, I have to tell CentralNIC to request on my behalf, as 123-reg don't do things this way.

Another thing which is quite cheeky, is that Namesco set the technical contact details, aswell as the registrant email address to their own! To prevent hijacking they say! More like to cause more annoyance and hassle to people trying to transfer their domains away.

Quite annoying, I wouldn't use, nor recommend Namesco for any services. I will be glad when my domain is in the hands of the helpful, competant 123-reg company. (Albeit owned by Pipex ;))
