Hi all.

I'm after my first water cooling set up for my new rig.

As this will be my first attempt at water cooling and I only want to cool the CPU at the moment I don't want to go mad and want to keep to a small budget.

I was thinking of going for the XSPC RayStorm 750 EX240 WaterCooling Kit.

YOUR BASKET
1 x XSPC RayStorm 750 EX240 WaterCooling Kit £129.95
Total : £138.65 (includes shipping : £7.25).

I've read its a pretty good starting point, has every thing needed to cool the CPU and the new V4 pump/res is a vast improvement over earlier models.

Also If I feel brave enough I could add a single GPU to the loop later if desired.

My only concern is I have the corsair air 540 case which only has 2 drive bays one of which is already taken so I'd have to find a place to mount the res/pump. not a massive issue I hope as there is plenty of space in the 540?
and with it being all black shouldn't look to out of place.

The kit seems good value so is it worth going for or can I get something better for similar money?

cheers guys, oh and this is all your fault for posting such epic looking water cooled cases in the gallery :)

edit: oh you have the 540...hmm does that not have side mounted bays? not sure the raystorm res is designed for that orientation
double edit: Yes you should have the space to mount it somewhere else, might even look pretty snazzy if you find a decent place like on the floor where normal HDDS are stored and you would only need to line the bottom of the res with foam to reduce vibration
It would work fine, only thing I could suggest is buy better fittings with it (simple compression fittings will work wonders roughly £2.99 per fitting x6 i think) as the fittings that come with that kit are not very good and people have reported hoses flying off and drenching things. If you can try pad around the res/pump with foam to reduce vibration even more, other than that the raystorm is a good kit for a starter and I'm looking at getting one myself when funds allow

another thing I would also suggest is adding a cheap T-line for easy drainage should you want to upgrade to a bigger loop, however I'm not sure the raystorm pump has the power for CPU and GPU might need clarification from another member on that

cheers for your reply.

The side mounted bays where another concern I forgot to mention. I was planning on mounting the res at the bottom of the case if space allows.

I've read the v4 res/pump is a lot better than old versions and should handle another small rad and block fine?
Also the v4 res has another port on the back of it, could I use this as a drainage point?
If not whats the best way to add a drain point, I've seen people use a t-section with a plug?

What fittings would you suggest? Are these any good and are they the correct size for the kit?

YOUR BASKET
6 x XSPC G1/4" to 7/16" ID, 5/8" OD Compression Fitting (Black Chrome) £2.99 (£17.94)
Total : £20.21 (includes shipping : £1.90).

cheers.

they certainly look correct just hold on untill someone else can confirm it I'm very new to Water cooling and wouldn't want you to end up with the wrong size fittings

this is the tubing that come with the kit i believe:

going by the specs on that then yeah the compression fittings would work a charm

and as for adding a T-line where you looking into that ? if you wanted more Information a T line looks like this http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=45854&stc=1&d=1329923777 and is just a simple method for draining your rig without fuss
