Cheapest GPU that can run Call of Duty Black Ops at 1920x1080?

have a look at the link these a graph there. All the above dip under 40FPS. at that rez. So yes you do need this kind of power at those rez.

Sorry you rely too much on graphs and don't question the timeline or how the information is collected instead of your own experiences.

The simple console command cg_drawfps 1 will display your live fps during game play, just like COD5 :)

I've noted that the times that it most often drops to 40 ish is normally during map changing which is entirely normal.

Simple searches around the forums will give you loads of other console "tweaks" that will help with the appalling lag issues at the moment.

For my own live input of a Sapphire 5970 OC, (at stock) maxed out settings, Vsync off

1920 x 1080 72

3840 x 1080 68 (unplayable because of screen join in the middle lol)

5760 x 1080 62

Point is a gtx480 or even a gtx470 is good enough so long as you a 4ghz+ i7. Cpu is the key to framerates with Blackops.

Even a gtx580 will drop to below 30 fps if run on a 2ghz dual core. The framerate difference between a 2ghz dual core and 4ghz+ quad core i7 is that you lose about two thirds of your framerate.

So look to your cpu first before picking your gpu.

Even at 3.4Ghz you will be losing about 20% of your maximum framerate from your graphics card. So unless you plan to overclock, you will probably need dual cards to acheive what you want.

I must say that with my 4.5Ghz i7 and overclocked gtx470 in SLI, at 1920 x 1200 with 4xaa I can run at a consistant 60fps with vsync on.

A single GTX 460 will run that at 60 FPS no problems.

depending on your cpu of course ;)

Have a look here:

Black ops is really badly coded and is not using people's gpu to their full potential unless you have a hugely overclcoked quad core. If you have a dual core, you're in trouble.

Take the result with a 5970 card. The difference between an i7 at 2.66Ghz and an E8500 at 3.16Ghz is a massive 45 fps or 96%

And it scales even more as you go above 2.66Ghz on the i7 making the difference 76 fps and 161% at 4Ghz.

When your trying to get to 60fps, 76fps coming from your cpu type and speed has a big impact.

I found the best results by manually adding BlackOps as a profile and setting the rendering mode to AFR2, it was dipping into the 40's previously, now it's averaging 90's (min 68), 1920x1080, all maxed.

I think it's fairly shocking that the quake 3 engine can be made to run so poorly, £40 for a day and a half's gameplay is incredibly disappointing.

Hmm I disagree, 36 hours of gameplay seems more then enough for a modern day FPS.

Let's be honest the value in these games is with the online side not the single player.

COD4 graphics are not representative of BO.

I ran cod4 max settings at 1920x1200 on a 3870x2.

MW2 however couldnt run max settings at same res on same card.

BO I suspect is closer to the system requirments of MW2 than COD4.

I would think you may get away with a 460 or a 6850.... but I would look at benchmarks etc...

Also currently BO is a buggy mess. From what I can see, it seems to me BO might be the worst PC port Iv ever seen, so far.

It needs patching.

Jesus most of the people here are talking trash.

My 4850 1GB clocks set to 725/1100 at 1920 x 1080 with 8 x AA etc is pulling minimum of 55fps in heavy combat areas.

Black ops really isnt anything remotely intensive

no its not my 460 1gb demolished the game something like 60% gpu usage with vsync on and always 60fps (apart from the first lvl which seems buggy when the cars etc spawn i got some wierd fps spike)

.

Cod4 ran really nicely for me of course, and so did MW2. Black ops runs really poorly though. Runs prettymuch the same on 1024x768 with detail turned to low as it does at 1650x1050. My core2duo cpu is just being punished bigtime and not enough of the processing is being offloaded to the GPU (285GTX). It's just been poorly optimised but I hope that is fixed soon. In the meantime I have a Q9650 on the way that should even things up. I'm used to playing FPS games competitively since Q3 so used to silky smooth consistent frame rates very sensitive as soon as it drops, but can still kick butt even though it's jumping between 30-60fps.

It seems when it comes to the single player amd cards are running the game fine and gpu usage is high. Its the nv cards that are having problems with the gpu usage being low. When i ran a level my gpu usage was pretty much a constant 95% where as nv cards are only getting 30-40% usage.

i got E2180 @ 3.4g

4850 OC'ed

1920x1200 res and its smooth for me just runs like MW and MW2 did get a minor stutter every 10 mins but config edit soon fixed that! really enjoyed single player campaign, Boat level was amazing!
