Cheapest place to live within 30 mins walk of Monument

Plenty of areas of London contain many people who aren't white.

But people from that region of Asia make it a 3rd world place...

So basically avoid places with, a higher concentration than normal, ethnicities of 3rd world origin. That's your advice?

I was talking about a particular borough - you've then made a bunch of assumptions...

Islamic Republic of Tower hamlets - London's very own small third world country.

Some of them do yes.

erm no - I was quite specific about tower hamlets - see post 24

Ok, I'll stop extrapolating, until you answer the below.

So you have a problem with Muslims or people from the Indian subcontinent?

How do they make it a 3rd world place?

A borough that contains Bethnal Green, Canary Wharf, Brick Lane and Viccy Park. Are they all horrible or is Tower Hamlets, like every Inner London borough, actually a mixed bag rather than the worst place on Earth?

Perhpas you need to do a bit of background reading on tower hamlets... in particular re: electoral fraud, fights in council meetings, attacks on school teachers - anti semitism, homophobia, inviting groups such as Hizb ut-Tahrir to use council facilities... tis IMO the worst borough in London.

FWIW - assuming that someone who has a problem with one subset of a group has a problem with the whole group is logically flawed.

We always get threads like this.

Ultimately just find an area of London that you like, or have family/friends near and try looking for a place that fits your needs.

Inregards to people talking about underclasses and such, there are few areas in London where you don't have normal working people living right next to extremely poor people and those who never work. The areas that aren't like that are the most expensive to live in London and out of the budgets of most.

You could consider Chafford Hundred if you are looking for convenience. It is a 30 minute overland rail service into Fenchurch street (round the corner from Monument) and the rail company, C2C, is one of the highest rated in the country.

I cannot stand the Tube, and would rather walk, but if I can get a seat on a modern air-conditioned train then the 30 minute commute becomes more palatable. Where my place is it is only a couple of minutes walk to Lakeside Shopping Centre, and if you drive, the A13 and M25 are less than a mile away. I rent a two bedroom house for £850 a month.

There are also several options along the C2C lines that might be worth you considering, such as West Ham, Barking, Upminster, as they would also provide similar conveniences.

Good luck looking.

you'll stop liking it when you get mugged by some scrotes in Bethnal Green :)

For April 2012

58 robberies in E1
51 robberies in NW1

Robberies defined as cases where the threat of violence or actual violence is used to steal.

E1 - http://www.police.uk/crime/?q=London, Greater London E1, UK#crimetypes/2012-04
NW1 - http://www.police.uk/crime/?q=London, Greater London NW1, UK#crimetypes/2012-04

I don't know exactly, but I would have thought the population in E1 would be higher as well, so per capita it is even more favourable.

I rent a nice Borough 2bed 2bath flat (with underground parking), literally 50m from the station, for about £1600pm. Not discounted or anything - seems to be the going rate. I can walk to Monument in 10 minutes.

You could try Vauxhall or Lambeth North - they're all within 30 mins walk of Monument.
