£764.77 inc delivery

Any problems with this spec, anything i could do better?

tbh i'd swap most of it :

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2)
change to core2duo 6420

Tagan TG580-U15 580W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU
- £82.24
change to corsair 520w

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) - £72.84
maybe change to crucial ballistix 5300

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £76.36
change to gigabyte ds3p

Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM
- £99.86

could go for any of the 16mb cache sata2 drives get 250gb+ and not much difference in speed for two thirds the price.

Its for a friend, and he likes that antec case (and I like building with antec cases, very easy) and he wanted the raptor drive. God knows why.

The problem with the 6600 is its more expensive, and so are intel motherboards with all the decent ones costing over £100.

would echo the C2D suggestion, AM2 is a waste of time if your spending that much IMO.

Cheaper C2D CPU's can be had, check out the 6320 or even 2140/60

Decent C2D mobos can be had for £60-80 range easily.

Yeh i have the Antec Nine-Hundred case and wouldnt swap it for anything in its price range even though people say its rubbish, the Lian-Li is better and cheaper still though but not as good looking or as good at cooling in my opinion.

Hows this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Heatpipe CPU Cooler

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM X2

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Few things with that spec, he likes the antec case, he wants lightscribe, he wants the BFG OC card, and he wants a raptor drive. I'll suggest it to him, but he is buying this all tomorrow with my card, and im building it for him, and he seemed happy with AMD and not overclocking, as I doubt he would. Im tempted to just let it ago with the spec above.

For that price I'd get this.

Costs a bit over your stated price but it comes to£750 exactly, including vat but excluding Shipping when you replace the Antec 900 with a Lian Li. I've worked with both and I like both.
DS3 + E6600 + Thermalright Ultra 120 should get you a nice overclock.
I've stuck the fan in there to represent a Yate Loon fan, a fan of similar price which I'd probably get for the Thermalright 120.

Also if you do intend in overclocking which you really should and its so easy to do, get the E6420 over the E6600 saves a few pounds and in my opinion its a better overclocker.

Also you might want to invest in an aftermarket cooler such as a Noctua or for a cheaper option Arctic freezer 7 pro.

So in everyones opinion, worth me convincing him to overclock instead?

This guy probably won't change his pc for years, and its only really CS 1.6 and CSS he ever plays... more so 1.6, which hardly needs a system like this but sure. So i thought it would be alright with a AMD system that he doesn't need to overclock, and should hopefully last longer.

Even if he's staying at stock, get a C2D. It's just silly to buy an AMD CPU at the moment.. Intel's are cheaper, cooler and faster.

And there's only so long a man can bear having a Core 2 Duo at stock in their PC. ;)

Or with the 8800GTS 320Mb Version it would come to:

Total : £725.99

Even if you leave that system at stock, it will still perform very well. If he needs the extra performance have a go at overclocking, read up on it, take it slow and he will be fine.

The Lian Li Case is exceptionally good, i was having doughts about it but now i have it, i cant praise it enough.

5300 RAM? And as i said before, he WANTS that antec case. Im saying to him now about getting a 6600 and a ds3.

Get a E6420 instead on the E6600 and he wont be dissapointed by the Antec Nine Hundred so dont worry if he still wants it, but defo get him to overclock and go C2D.

I think i'd rather go for a 6600 if im going for intel, would rather only have to overclock a little for the extra boost, and i don't have much experience with overclocking ram.
