What's the verdict.... anything you'd change?

The PSU is a little overkill I am sure a 450-500 would suffice. If your buying the quad it would be wiser to wait until after the 22nd if you have not seen the news regarding price cuts.

I'm a complete noob, so take all this with a pinch of salt... but;

What OS will you be using? No need for 4Gb of RAM if you're only using a 32bit OS.
Would go for a different mouse myself, but that's a very personal thing.
Again, depends on your OS, but wasn't there something about Audigys not working with Vista? Someone better informed than I will clear that up for you.
Never heard of that cooler. Doesn't mean it's not good, but personally I'd go for something else, maybe from Noctua or Scythe.
PSU is a little more than is needed.

Ok, awesome thanks, that's shaved a bit off the price. I'm just hoping everythings compatible, i'm worried about the cooler not fitting inside the Lexa.
Also, will I need any extra cables or anything?

I'll be using vista 64bit home premium, and yeah that's not good about the audigy+vista thing could someone clear that up for me? Also what cooler would you recommend for best cooling a quad then?

Any reason for two different Hard Drives?

I haven't heard much about that cooler so cant really comment but i would recommend this one:

As for the DVD Drives go for SATA ones, just makes cable management that much easier and you can cancel the IDE controller on the mobo which will help with boot up times a little. ;)

Yeah, master for Apps, secondary for storage i'll be doing a lot of CAD and design stuff so I want all my work on a secondary drive seperate from the OS and applications. Thanks for the heads up on the DVD drives aswell.

P.S Can anyone shed any light on this Audigy+Vista problem thing? I don't wanna buy a dud card!

I googled it and there seems to be some sort of issue, but it's still pretty cloudy as to what it is and what cards are effected.

You could always do a search over in the Sound City forum here. If it is an issue, there'll be threads about it :)

How many USB slots do you need? I think you will get 10 with that PCI card.

Don't like that case much - Akasa Eclipse will solve that problem http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-AK :D :D

RAM will not overclock if your planning on that (guessing you are from the cooler).

Will edit with new spec just doing now.

Hahaha, yeah it is a lot of USB's but I have a lot of usb devices to connect! (7 and counting...) And I kinda had my heart set on that case...:( I love the look of it and the cooling seems to be pretty good? I was originally gonna go for the Antec P900 gaming case but I didn't fancy something that looked like it had been stolen straight from the set of a dodgy 70's sci-fi b-movie! And as for the ram, i've been told I can still reach 3ghz on my q6600 with it, and that's more than enough for me!

From the looks of it, that is 8gb of slowish ram. Would you not be better going with less faster stuff ? Although i know next to nothing about CAD/design apps so i may be wrong.

As said, most people would choose a different mouse, personal pref.
I would just get an x-fi music sound card for piece of mind, it also will sound noticably better :)

Never used an ergo keyboard, can't comment on that.

You might just want a different case. As said, akasa eclipse/antec p182 may work well for you.

Good choice of monitor, although would you not want a larger screen/more real estate ?

I guess the 250GB is apps/op system ? get a 250GB WD AAKS or seagate 7200.10.

As alreadly said, do you need all them USB pots ? Even if you do, you may want to extend through USB itself, rather then using a PCI.

Do you need such a powerful GFX card ?

May want a different CPU cooler as poeple have mentioned.

IDE DVD drives should be SATA. Any reason you need 2 ?

Get a 620W corsair PSU

You know, i am not an expert at all with this, maybe get a second opinion on what i have said. ;)

If its cad you are wanting to do you want lots of Ram, and speed isn't really important dell Precision workstations (which are regarded as the best) use 667MHz ram.

Also that's graphics cad is not really appropriate, you really want to look at openGL, they cost about 3 times as much as gaming graphics cards but they will unlock a lot of openGL only functions in CAD programs. What program are you using??

it all seams overkill a solidworks only recommends a maximum of 6GB of ram for example, is the DDR3 really important? By the time you want to make the leap you will get a new motherboard, as you will want 4 DDR3 slots.

Overclocking isn't relay important with cad programmes, its all about stability.

How important is you work??? look at a raid 1 or raid 5 set-up will cost a bit more but will save you date for a disc crash, this MB supports it. I would personally go with Seagate Barracuda drives for storage.

Well first of all, wow thanks to all the great replies. Well let me first say this is a home computer and workstation, i'm a student on a tightish budget so can't really have one for work and and one for play. The graphics card is the best all round solution I can think of, as I also hope to be playing some crysis! I've "heard" the card cutting render times a lot aswell. Also my workflow will consist of 3DSM/ZBrush/Photoshop, through Z-app etc. Which is why I chose the amount of RAM that I did, 2GB on my current system isn't even enough for staying lag free with the images I currently work with in photoshop! (Upwards of 500MB) Also, my work isn't THAT important as i'm still teaching myself and i'm in full time study so I can make backups; I don't have a responsibility to clients or anything. I doubt i'll I need RAID. I will get rid of that USB PCI and just go external usb hub just incase I need the PCI slot. Might get a dual monitor setup if my budget stretches too it I guess aswell.
