Ok, So Im looking to go back to college in september and im looking to do the above a levels to get into uni to study pharmacy. I approached gateshead college last week and it turns out they neither do the a levels part time or full time and now just do a combined sciences (which i think would put me at a disadvantage to getting into uni). So, can anyone that has been in a similar situation in the tyne and wear area point me in the direction of a college that will ideally let me study both of the a levels part time.

Kinda sucks to think that had I done this last year I could have done both at gateshead college and taken up only 1 day a week (they only just changed the science a levels grr!). Still I can only hope some college/sixth form will do them part time so i can continue my work as a dispenser and not be a poor student just yet!

Cant help woth your question, but will you have to pay for your course?
if they are part time yeah, but if it turns out i have to do them full time with otehr a levels then no. downside is if im doing 18hrs a week college its gonna reduce my works hours considerably :/

foundation degree?

or just get an evening job and go to uni in the day. you'll probably only have 15-20 hrs of lectures per week.

I was under the impression that if you were under 19 you had to pay even for full time courses? (My gf is starting this sept, dont know if she will need to pay yet)

HEFC will take just as long (2 years) but may become a possibility depending on what the local colleges can offer. Ive been looking into door supervision so if needs be ill be a night owl (tho ideally id like to remain a dispenser)

under 19 is no charge for full time, over 19 if ** full time college and studying your first level 2/3 qualification its free too (they even do an adult learning grant of £30/week kinda like ema)

well im gonan try tyne met college tomorrow and newcastle also (thats if i can get anyone with half a brain on the other end of the phone line!)

update: tyne met college do biology part time but not chemistry (grrr!) and newcastle college offer hefc's...soo time for me to contact sunderland uni and see whether chemistry and biology hefcs will suffice or whether i need a third subject.

chemistry is essential to start the degree, i didnt have biology a level and i dont think its been much of a disadvantage (just finished my 3rd yr at aston) plus your dispensing experience will be really valuable. good luck
