Found these links posted by someone on a forum I visit regularly. The image sets are posted on the BBC and depict views of an eery, almost post apocolyptic Chernobyl. Some very good pics on here, thought I'd share them.

Love these pics, they are eery but at the same time fascinating.

Also, check out http://www.kiddofspeed.com/ for more shots of the abandoned town.

Those are fascinating, thanks for sharing.

Edit:

"Nature has been reclaiming the abandoned town. Wild boars roam the streets at night. Birch trees have been shooting up at random, even inside some apartment blocks."

For some reason I like that quote.

I have seen these before.

And as before I will never forget them, the are truely astonishing.

And as always should be remembered.

Some amazing photos, the comments/images about how nature is beginning to take over reminded me of the film Twelve Monkeys.

Hard to believe that happened 20 years ago. :(

i recommed that kidofspeed site

whenever any of you people have an hour spare just read through some of those journals for some amazing descriptions of what it's like in the quarantine zone

The scary thing is....

The big shed thing they built over the reactor core os rusting and the roof is getting small holes in it and water is getting inside making the nuclear liquide molten stuff even more sludgey and there could be the possiblity of the who shed/capsul that holds it all in could colapse and brake apart and spreading the nuclear stuff inside it over the country side :(

They estimate if it does go, it will only go as wide as the 30km radious they have set up for it. but many scientists say it could be much much worse then that.

They need 70billion dollars to build a new concreate shed for it :(

I'd love to be able to actually visit the site though...The atmosphere would be something to behold; a whole town, absolutly silent. The pictures are brilliant but only convery so much.

/shudder :)

I'd love to live there... if it wasn't for all the radiation that is. Something rather appealing to me about an apocolyptic no mans land.

Anyone else think like that or am I just weird?

It's a nice thought isn't it. nature reclaiming it's land. A defiant statement that no matter how much we screw things up nature is always gonna find a way to pick up the pieces.

Although some oil companies seem to be taking that as a personal challenge... heh.

I'd love to visit. Not sure about living there though.

There's another thread here with some interesting links and info.

Obviously the radiation is a turn off.... lol. But aside from that it would be a survival zone. Hunting for food, surviving in an urban wasteland. Rarely meeting another soul. Maybe I've played one RPG too many but that kind of life really appeals to me. There's no possiblity of living such a life in England anymore, or indeed anywhere else I can think of.

Nice pics ;).
Why can't they build over it all?

They've covered up a hell of a lot of radioactive material and it's still getting through soil and whatnot. I'm no scientist but i'm sure it'd take literally miles of concrete to conceal it, even then it's not permanent and is gonna be there for centuries still.

Recently there was an account from one of the engineers who witnessed the accident very good read, especially about the early stages of containment.
